WWYD- living room furniture

When we bought our house 4 years ago, we purchased a set of living room furniture. At the time, it was what we thought we wanted/needed, and could afford with all of the expenses of buying a house.

Now, 4 years later, we really hate the set. It hasnt worn well, its not that comfortable, and its really not functional at all for when we have guests. We now have the money to replace it, but I'm having a hard time justifying spending money on new furniture since the set we have is only 4 years old.

WWYD? Would you buy new furniture or no? I really want new, but I'm sure there are other things we could find to do with that money. But it bothers me every time I walk into the living room....not sure what to do.

Thanks!

If you can afford to replace it. Do it.
No sense in being uncomfortable and hating something when you have the means to change it.
Try and sell it on Craigslist for a few bucks. Maybe that will help you feel a little better about buying something new.

I agree -- try to sell it, even if it's only for $200 or so, it might make you feel better about getting new stuff. OR, you could donate it to a thrift store and write it off on your taxes! Get new furniture -- there is no need to live with furniture you hate!

I don't remember where I saw it, but I just saw a quote somewhere that said "If you can afford it, buy the good furniture you want. Then you will only have to be upset once".

It is a great way to think about parting with $$$ if it's something you can afford, and what you want ;).

I also agree with the others about trying to sell what you have. Maybe even try selling on here!

If you can afford new and hate the old, then get new!

I say get the new.

DH and I bought very inexpensive furniture for our house when we moved in because it was all that we could afford at the time. It's only been two years, and we've already starting replacing it with our permanent furniture.

If you can afford it, buy it. Get new furniture that you will enjoy. Maybe you can donate the old set to someone.
