Great DIY idea for a kitchen backsplash
This DIY project took the homeowner approximately 6000 pennies = $60
To create this penny backsplash, the homeowners bought some mesh backing for mosaic tiles and metal glue to start making sheets of tile.
They installed them and then grouted with laticrete epoxy grout in chocolate truffle.
I really want to try something like this! Now if only I can convince DH

Great DIY idea for a kitchen backsplash
its interesting, not sure whether it looks as good in person as it does in pictures, Also how hard/easy is it to cut tiles(pennies).
I'd also imagine it take a lot of work to glue those 6000 pennies on all lined up right

Re: Great DIY idea for a kitchen backsplash
The hardest decision I think would be heads or tails.
The anal person in me would have to make sure that every penny faces the right way, and is straight - no looking at a sideways Lincoln face.
If these were plain copper discs I think I would like it better. Close up you would see too much of the penny detail.

I think random would look better than structured. In the pics, the pennies are all random (heads and tails, and directionality).
Go to Google Images, and search for "penny backsplash". There's over 100,000 results (not all are actual pennies, some are plain discs), so you can definitely get variations on the idea....

It looks cool but I wonder if it would smell weird.
I hate the smell of loose change and I would think that it might give off a metallic odor?

It would smell like copper, but I would think a coat of poly or something would seal the coins, and prevent any metal smell.
