Please tell me about Babylon / West Islip
I'm a Western Nassau girl but we're looking to venture out to Suffolk. I'm really interested in these two areas. Overall from the research I've done it looks like we can't go wrong with either but I'm interested in hearing real experiences. Can anyone tell me pros and cons? Are there areas we should be focusing on?
Thanks!

Re: Please tell me about Babylon / West Islip
I grew up in West Islip and I loved everything about it. Schools are great too. I'm looking to buy a house there as soon as I sell mine... Good luck!!

Thanks so much for your reply!! Good luck to you in selling your home as well! Are there areas of West Islip you would recommend over others? I know nothing about the area!

Re: Please tell me about Babylon / West Islip
we looked in both of those areas and loved them both. DH favored West Islip and I favored Babylon. In my mind, you can't go wrong with either but I just love the village in Babylon. We ended up buying in Islip with the intension of eventually buying in one of the areas in a few years. Good luck in your search!

Re: Please tell me about Babylon / West Islip
I live in babylon
I like west islip- but there is no town- and that's what I LOVE about babylon
I am buying a house in the village in the next 12 months- I love the vibe, the life style, the fact I can walk every where, the beach pass for babylon residents- it's just so cute here- west islip just doesn't have that
plus I have friends all over and work all over and can easily get every where

Both are great places to live. There are areas of WI that are walking distance to Babylon village. Babylon village has extra village taxes as well. Some people like Babylon schools and some don't. Majority of people like WI schools. WI school district is much bigger than Babylon. WI is closer to Robert Moses and has easier access to highways than Babylon. Babylon has a main LIRR station that has express trains to Manhattan. Parts of WI are very close to the LIRR in Babylon as well but you can only get a parking pass (for a fee) if you live in Babylon. The parts of WI that are north of the Southern State do not have sewers (which to me is a big negative so I only looked south of SS).

Re: Please tell me about Babylon / West Islip
I grew up in West Islip and choose to buy a house here and raise my family in West Islip. I think the village is nice but its a very short car ride so when we want to go out we have that option.

Re: Please tell me about Babylon / West Islip
We are in W Islip and so far we LOVE it! Heard nothing but good things while we were looking and my neighbors are really fantastic people. We are 1 block north of Montauk Hwy. Right by Good Sam. Not far from the village at all.
When we were looking, we had a few towns in mind but once we saw a few houses in W Islip, there was no other town for us.
You'll know what "feels" right for you when you go into the towns.
Good Luck!! P.S. some nice houses by me for sale right now as well :)

Babylon is cute. Be careful with parking in the village, they are vultures just waiting to hand out tickets the second your meter expires, if your car's tire is touching the parking line, your inspection is one day expired, etc. Can you tell I've been burnt there a LOT?

Re: Please tell me about Babylon / West Islip
I live in N. Babylon, but moving to W. Babylon in a few weeks. We love the town of Babylon, but didn't like the added village taxes! We found a great house slightly north of the actual town (technically N. Babylon), but our taxes are $6,000 a year and we are still within walking/biking distance to the town! Our new house is a little further, but still has the perks of living close to Babylon! Good luck with your search!

Thanks so much for all the replies! It sounds like we can't go wrong with either area and that is such a relief for me!
Sparrow - thanks for the head's up about the parking. I will definitely be keeping that in mind!
Sounds like we have some more research to do but it looks like we'll be focusing south of the SS thanks to MommaG. ;)
Look out, PhyllisNJoe! You may have new "neighbors" soon! ;)
