Christening guest dilemma
DH and I booked a Christening hall, planning to pay for it ourselves and sent out invitations. Later on, my dad and step mom generously offered to pay for the remainder. But now, step mom feels that she should invite 20 of her family. The problem is, there is no room.
Our (DH and I) immediate family is big on attending family functions, I dont think man people will decline, so I dont anticipate the 20 people can be B-listed if we get RSVP no's.
My question is: Instead of sending 20 people (whom I am not close with at all, like, Ive met them 3x, and really dont agree that they should attend, but since we are not paying I am trying to keep the peace), can we send these people Christening announcements (kind of like a birth announcement) but not an invitation? Does this exist? What type of wording would be appropriate?
Changing the venue at this point is not an option
Thanks for reading!

Christening guest dilemma
I have never heard of a christening announcement. I personally wouldn't go that route because, to me, it would seem like a slap in the face to those people. I can totally appreciate you trying to keep the peace, especially since they are being so generous. But it is really out of your hands, because there physically is no room. I think if you explain that to her, i can't see how she could be upset with you.

Re: Christening guest dilemma
I wouldn't do Christening announcements. I've never seen or heard of them before and it just seems like you're saying "we Baptized our baby and you weren't invited". As the pp said, I would just tell your step mom there is no room for their extra guests and that's all there is to it. She can't ask you to put people where there simply isn't the room.

Re: Christening guest dilemma
I think you need to sit down and explain the situation. If you get any grief over it, I wouldn't accept their offer to contribute, since it obviously comes with a lot of strings attached.

This is how I feel...since you were originally going to pay for it yourselves anyway, I'd explain the situation and if she can't accept it/keeps pushing I'd genuinely thank her/them for their generous offer, but tell her/them that you can't accept it anymore as there's no way for you to accommodate any more guests. Good luck

Re: Christening guest dilemma
Yeah , announcements would be bad. It was just a thought. Step mom will just have to understand ...
Thanks for the input!
