Can you tell me about the Mineola SD?
What's the story with mineola schools? I seem to like the homes for sale in mineola but know nothing about the town. I've heard that one of the elementary schools either will be closing or has closed- not sure which.

Re: Can you tell me about the Mineola SD?
As a real estate agent, I cannot opine too much on school districts, but I usually refer my clients to various sources to assist them with their school research:
www.schooldigger.com
www.greatschools.org
Those sites provide factual data on the schools and districts, as well as reviews from parents.
Newsday has rankings that allow you to compare LI public school districts based on various specific criteria (e.g., test results, graduation rates, etc.). If you can't find the info on the Newsday site, let me know and I can send you the specific link -- I just don't have it handy now.
The Mineola school district website should give you a good sense of the schools, activities, programs offered, etc.
As for town/community info in general, it's always helpful to look at the Chamber of Commerce website for a town, and since Mineola is an incorporated village, you could check out the village website.
Hope this helps!

parts of mineola go to east williston, which is an incredible district
mineola itself is pretty middle of the road-not incredible, not horrible

Can you tell me about the Mineola SD?
I have done a good amount of research for a writing job I have, and I look at things like test scores and AP offerings. Mineola is a solid district, your child would definitely get a good education. However, surrounding districts, like East Willison as someone mentioned, and Herricks are better. Parts of Albertson also go to Herricks, I think.

Re: Can you tell me about the Mineola SD?
I grew up in Mineola and am a product of their schools. My mother also still works there. I love Mneola schools...they have a ton of classes offered, they have an excellent faculty, and they have a lot of diversity among the students. Do they have the highest test scores? No....but test scores really aren't an accurate measure of the school.

Can you tell me about the Mineola SD?
I would just be aware of any changes that will come from the fact that they closed 2 elementary schools in the last few years...... I know from training that their elementary reading curriculum is fabulous
