Similar I guess to a tinted moisturizer.
Supposedly does multiple things like moisturizes, brightens, covers, protects etc.
I still use a moisturizer under mine though- I don't find it moisturizers all that great.
I do like the lightness of it and the fact that it doesn't sink into my pores and imperfections and highlight them like most foundations.
For the weekend it's fine alone, for work I put some bare minerals over it for extra coverage and a more finished look.

BB = "Beauty Balm" supposedly its the hottest thing in Asia and now its popular everywhere. I would say its like a tinted moisturizer that gives off a "glowy" look.
