Anyone familiar with Memorial Sloan-Kettering area and Central Park Zoo and FAO Schwartz

My friend is at Sloan-KetteringChat Icon and I am going to try and visit her on Sunday. I thought since we'd be going in I would try to make some kind of trip out of it and go to Central Park Zoo and FAO Schwartz. DS is 2 1/2. Is there any place for DH to keep DS occupied while I am at the hospital? Do we park near the hospital and then drive to the zoo? Can we walk from the zoo to FAO? I dont know the best way to do this logistically...

DH used to work in that hospital system and we used to live a few blocks from there. It is a bit of a trek to walk to the Central Park Zoo but totally doable. I think it is easier to find parking by the hospital because there are a lot of lots. You won't have as many parking options near the Zoo, esp around FAO.

There is a neighborhood park (St Catherine's) at 67th and 1st. Many kids of the hospital staff play there. It is nothing special but close to the hospital. We often went there if we didn't want to walk towards Central Park. There is a McDonalds across the st as well as a Dunkin Donuts around the corner. John Jay Park has a great playground at 78th and York with a nice water feature.

Depending on how long you plan to stay at the hospital, I would recommend that your DH take your son via stroller to FAO, walk back east and go on the tram, then head back uptown towards the hospital and play at the playground until you are done.

The tram at 59th and 2nd was a huge hit with my son when he was 2. He loved it.

You might be able to find street parking around 57th and Lex/Madison. We went into the city for the Central Park Zoo and amazingly found street parking around 57th - and it wasn't the only available spot. You can just drive around the upper 50's street around lex/mad etc and try (sorry that I can't remember exactly what street). I remember that the street looked empty - there were no big name shops there.

FAO is right there on 59th. Def walk from the zoo/park.

If you were to find street parking closer to the park/zoo, you could just take the 57th st crosstown bus and then walk up a few blocks to Memorial. Check out nyc best parking for the cheapest garage and then you can decide which side (1st/york vs 5th ave) you want to park on.
