Crawling/Clean Floors/ And want to strangle DH

So DD is officially crawling,, SO cute... for now... once she gets moving faster I am sure it will be a total PIA!

Anyway.. we have hard wood floors and I am a big advocate of no shoes in the house, always, now that DD Is crawling I am even more adament about it -- DH thinks I am ridiculous and complains about this "rule" constantly. He does take his shoes off when he comes home generally,BUT it doesnt stop him from walking all over the house either before he takes them off for the day, or once he puts them on in the morning before he leaves the house. It DRIVES ME CRAZY.
Clearly I cant change him, although if anyone has any ideas on how I can, please let me know. =-)
So my more practical question is,, if you have hard wood floors, how do you keep them clean, how often and what do you use to clean them for your crawler?

Crawling/Clean Floors/ And want to strangle DH

I have hard wood through out my house. I vaccum twice a week and damp mop them as needed.

I don't keep them perfectly clean. I have a dog that sheds more fur than I think he even has. DS has been crawling for a month now and I figure a little dirt is not going to kill him.

We are a shoes and whatever house. I just don't have the time or energy to worry about it anymore that what I already do.

Thanks Ali-- I work FT too so my gripe is that if we could avoid wearing the dang shoes in the house in teh first place, it would eliminate how often I have to clean them!!! (DH thinks that is me just being lazy, but IMO he doesnt get a say unless and until, he does the mopping himself.. not that that stops him or gets him to listen to me or stop complaining when I nag aboutit but I digress..)
I usually use Murphy Oil to clean the hard wood... shoudl I avoid that now?

I wouldn't go crazy over it. I have been asking DH to take off his shoes for years. Not only because of the kids, but he works in a shop and comes home with oil and grease on his shoes which have stained my carpets Chat Icon

I hate shoes in the house and always take mine off. DH is like your DH - doesn't get it and refuses to not wear his shoes. We have wood also. So...he vacuums everyday (Swiffer Vac), uses the regular vacuum 2-3 times a week, and steam mops the floors 2-3 times a week. He's also home most mornings by himself after I go to work and DD goes to school, so it makes sense for him to do it when no one is home. I'm not crazy about DD getting a little dirty or anything, but he's in the fire department and if on the ambulance or engine everyday. The bottom of his shoes and his hands scare me lol.

I don't make myself crazy with this - I clean the floors with the steam mop 2x a week when they crawled - 1x a week now w/ walkers.

Between everything they put in their mouths, the rugs etc etc - there is no possible way to keep ALL of the potential germs away when they start moving. Just do your best .

We are not a 'no shoes in the house' family -
We probably should be, DH and I both work in the city, DH in a hospital - but I just don't have the time to stress over that

I also don't stress too much over this. I clean the floors 1x per week. A little dirt actually is good for them. And I figured why obsess over the floors when the rest of the furniture and whatnot is dirty anyway?

We do try our best not to wear shoes in the house.

We never wear shoes in the house . It's so much easier to keep the house clean. Every 2 or 3 days I clean the area ( tile) where we take our shoes off and it's so filthy. I wouldn't want it all over the house. We have hardwood and light area rugs. I vacuum each evening ( lots of crumbs, my hair, and cat hair) then use the steam mop once , maybe twice a week. I use a small amount of vinegar mixed with the water and it gets the floors very clean.

I am the same way except we don't have a dog and I can't remember the last time I vacuumed. Maybe I steam mopped 2 weeks ago and who even knows before that?Chat Icon

We try to keep our shoes off. Doesn't always happen. I don't go crazy. Have enough stress in my life. My twins are ok so far and put everything in their mouths. Chat Icon

we have carpets..... once ds started crawling we decided we would take our shoes off in the hall.....

When we have company over we do not ask/make them take their shoes off, we re clean after they are gone.

now that he's 3 we are more laxed with what we do.
