Braxton hicks- is this normal

I've been having them more often now. It's just a tightening of my belly. No pain or cramping. Sometimes it's when I roll over or get up out of bed.

They told me at the hospital to clock them and if they are 5 or less mins apart to come in. I also heard I shouldn't have more than 4 an hour (or is it 6?). I just counted 4 in an hour 45. Sometimes they come just minutes apart but the next one isn't for an hour. I'm sure I'm just noticing it more since I'm laying here being lazy.

But is it normal to have them a lot more at this point? (27 weeks)

They do recommend to get checked out if you have 4 in an hour. Drink some water and rest. Dehydration can bring them on too. Feel better!

i just started feeling them about a week ago (i'm 31 weeks now) so i'd say you're ok. as you said, if you have more than 4 in an hour, call the doctor to see what they recommend.

i also stress out about pre-term labor so it's glad to know i'm not alone there Chat Icon

Six in an hr is what our crew told me. But if you feel any pain, lower cramping, back pain then yoy call. For me BH was high and just more of a tightening where as preterm labor is more contractions, cramping, pain, etc.

Definitely drink drink drink drink more water than you think possible. I was never told to count BH contractions (when we were taking our L&D class last pregnancy, I would have them the entire time through class and my instruction used to joke that I was going to give birth in class so everyone could see what it's like). I was only told to count painful contractions. There were a few nights towards the end that I'd have 4 or 5 in an hour, then they'd just go away.

As far as BH goes, I was always told it was your body practicing for labor and not a bad thing. But if you're uncomfortable or concerned, definitely give a call.

The thing is I know people with twins who were in labor and dialated with no sign and no cramping at all. For some reason your uterus is all filled up and you dont always feel them. They didnt mention pain at the hospital they said 5 mins apart and come in. So of course I'm paranoid. Lol. They stopped. I had like maybe 1 or 2 at most but one was when getting out of bed which is not as easy as it seems lately. I just keep drinking in hopes it's just that.

I'd definitely be much more cautious with twins and shy on the side of extra care (it's not paranoia -- it's attention to detail!). I have been having a ton of tightness and BH lately and I'm due a week before you, but there's only one in there (one very pretzeled, stubborn one). Hope things settle down!!! Keep baking little ones!

I think you should def call your OB and ask them instead... While it could be normal or abnormal, your OB knows your exact history so I wouldn't take any chances. Don't take this the wrong way - we all ask questions like this on here, I just want you to be careful. :)

Well i went to the hospital last week. They monitored me and sent me home. I had a few while there as well as some "irratability" which they said was normal. They said to come in if they are close. They aren't so I know I don't need to go. If I call the ob for a hangnail he will tell me to go to the hospital. Im always paranoid so i could call him everyday with something new and be in the hospital every day. I was just wondering if it's normal for them to start this early. It's odd that I never noticed them before I was in bedrest so I'm sure part of it is the maneuvering in bed.
