Converting from oil to gas heat
I live in West Islip, dead end street. To my knowledge, there is no gas line installed. However, there is on a cross-street.
Can I get National Grid to convert? What costs are there? I was looking at the NG website and wasn't sure.
TIA

National grid will cover i believe a 100 ft other than that u r on ur own. I converted to gas recently but we have gas in the house. It cost us about 5000. Im thinkin it would cost you more bw 7-10,000 to convert

Re: Converting from oil to gas heat
Call National Grid to get an estimate. We converted and had gas within 100 feet, so we didn't pay for a hookup and it cost us about $5,000 total to convert (including appliances). In the house we're buying, gas was 150 feet away and NG quoted us $1600 to just bring gas to our house and then you have to pay a company to do the conversion on top of that. We just found out the neighbors next door have gas, so we should be within 100 feet now and be in the clear! In my sister's case, there was gas on the next block and NG quoted her something ridiculous like $12,000 to bring gas to her house -- needless to say she didn't do it! Good luck!!!

You have to call nat'l grid, and they will research how far the nearest house with gas is to you. They quoted me $62,000

Yeah, insane! The nearest house was around the block. I'm in Levittown, and not many people have gas here. Needless to say, we're sticking with oil

Re: Converting from oil to gas heat
Mine is about 4-5 houses down too and they wanted 20,000 as well. They told me get those neighbors to convert as well and they would do it for no extra cost..We just moved in so i don't know the neighbors yet but maybe in the future..good luck
