moving question

just called a moving company - they said they charge by the hour, with a 5 hour minimum. They'd give us 3 guys (and the truck obviously) for that time.

But how long will the move actually take? DH and I currently live in a 1-br apartment and will be moving about 20 minutes away.

The apt is on the 2nd floor and has a short walk from from door to the parking area (like a minute walk)

TIA

Re: moving question

We just moved from a 1 bdr 2nd floor garden apartment in RVC to a house in Malverne, 10 minutes away. The walk from our building front door to the moving truck was about 25 steps lol.

We were quoted 5 1/2 hours with the same amount of man power as you mentioned. We ended up using 5 hours. This included them taking apart and putting together our entire bedroom set.

I didn't think we'd need THAT long either since we were only moving from a 1 br but we did.

If it helps.. this is what we moved:

Bedroom set (queen bed w/headboard, 2 nightstands, armoir, larger dresser with mirror)
Sofa, loveseat, recliner
coffee table and end table
tv stand and computer desk
2 book cases
kitchen cart
3 table lamps and 1 floor lamp
2 tv's uncrated.
Boxes

We moved the computer, our clothes, small 2 person kitchen table, food, and entire basement storage unit ourselves either that day, before, or after. We ended up going back to the apt. for other random things we forgot about 3 times AFTER the movers were done before we were really moved out. You'd be suprised how much random stuff you can accumulate.

HTH
