MOMs or 3 YR olds and over
My DD turned 3 in june .. She will not sit and listen to me read an entire book to her.. I try constantly.. She loves books . Goes and gets them.. the minute I ask her if she wants to read a book she runs and picks one.. But when I start to read it she turns the pages , she doesnt pay attention.. Could this be an early sign of ADD or am I paranoid? When did your dc sit through a whole book? She has done it a few times but very very few and far between.. And when you start to read it she jumps up to go get another book.. she is so excited to be getting the attention but she doesnt pay attention to the reading ... She loves stories .. I can sit and TELL her one story after another and she loves them and sits there and listens .. But as soon as I get a book she acts nutty? I tried the cd and book thing that was a failure as well.. I just want to try to gage this if its possible TIA

I think she just wants to read them all. Have you tried taking her into a room where there are no other books & there's not much else around? I'd pay attention to this issue but I would not immediately conclude that she needs to be evaluated for ADD.

Re: MOMs or 3 YR olds and over
DS is 3 and sort of similar. Always had a great attention span, but I feel like he now has a mind of his own and wants to use it. Things he used to love he doesn't as much anymore. Now he wants to do what he wants and not what someone else tells him. They've been told what to do for 3 yrs and now it's there turn... Wait, I like saying No now or changing my mind 50 times just b.c I can. That's why they say 3 is worse than 2. Some days are better than others. He turned 3 end of may. I also have a 1 yr old. Funny... I walk every morning with my 1 yr old for a long time and he's fine and sits there looking around. My 3 yr old used to be awesome too with walks, but now he wants to tell me what to do and then if he feels like it he wants to go hone. I miss school. It ended last Friday and my 1 yr old and I were on a nice morning ched after my 3 yr old got picked up from the bus. Lol

Re: MOMs or 3 YR olds and over
3 year old attention spans are very short but as she gets older it gets longer ...try and choose books very short, or choose picture books or the books with first words example...a book with colors shapes food ect and its just the picture with the word under it. these types of books are perfect for right now. also, its good to set up a routine with her...maybe read right before she goes to bed and she gets to choose the book. I have been a preschool teacher for 10 years. i taught 2 and 3 year old children..i have seen this alot and its totally normal. There are some websites that can give you a list of books that are appropriate for your 3 year old, as well as at the library they have a list of books for 3's in the children section or just ask your librarian. Also try some lift the flap books and ones with alot of colorful pictures. hope this is helpful! just keep trying! good luck!

My daughter likes to listen to the books and then she "reads" them back to me. Maybe you can make it like a game where you can read it and then she has to read it back.
I also try to make interactive by asking her questions etc.
