Dr not giving me blood results *UPDATE*
This is long..sorry...
One part of my huge list of bloodwork for when you first get pregnant did not come back with the rest. I got the blood drawn the first week of June. My doctor said the results should be in within 2 weeks. That was 2 weeks ago. I forgot to call the first week, but for the past week I've been calling every day, at least twice a day and NO ONE HAS GOTTEN BACK TO ME. I call and speak to the main receptionist and she assures me the doctor will call me before the end of the business day. The next day, the same receptionist tells me that the secretary I'm supposed to get the information from will call me before she leaves for the day. I leave messages for the OB secretary and the secretary of my main OB...NO CALLS.
Two questions --
1. What should I do? (I'm currently out of state, so I can't just drop by)
2. I'm waiting on results from a blood test for a disease that runs in my family (I had 2 first cousins with it, one passed away) and though I do not want to terminate the pregnancy, I do not like that the dr office is taking that right away from me by not giving me the results. Is this something I should express to them?
BTW...I'm FUMING over here.

UPDATE
I took your advice and stayed on the phone with the front receptionist until I got answers. They said they would call Quest because the results are not in yet and call me right back. The receptionist DID call me right back to tell me the results were still pending. I found that hard to believe since it's been 2 months since I went for the blood.
I called Quest myself and after speaking to a very nice lady who assured me 8 days was the max this test would take, got some answers. She said the results have been ready for at least a month, but since my doctor didn't send the release fax, they can't release the results. SO, when the receptionist (from my dr office) called, she could have told me that they made an error. Instead, she just told me the results were not in. The woman from Quest assured me that she would call the dr office and hassle them until they send the fax and that should be less than an hour!!!
About switching OBs...I have mixed feelings about this because I honestly LOVE the doctors, but I think the receptionists and front staff are incompetent. I do love the nurses, doctors and sono techs though... I don't know.
I JUST got a phone call -- I will have the results within a half hour.

OMG I don't blame you - that's crazy and soooo inconsiderate! I'm sorry your going through this.. but I'm not too sure u can do much from out of state. Hang in there till you get back

honestly i would consider changing Dr's. That doesnt sound reasonable for you to have to call every day for lab results & no one gets back to you within a timely fashion.

I would start calling them every 20 minutes and demand they let you speak with the dr. Then once you get the results I would find a new obgyn.

This is ridiculous. I would definitely look into switching OBs. See if you can hokd on the phone to speak to the doctor between appointments.

i know my doctor will only call if the results are not normal....which is fine but the receptionist should tell you that
i would call back until you get through to them

i would call and annoy them every hour until they give you the answer...then i would change docs. this is crazy!

honestly, i would call them every ½ hour until i got a call back. after you get the results, i would change OB's ASAP

My OB won't give results over the phone. you have to go in to get them. That said if this is the case for yours too they should at least be calling you back to let you know they don't release test results over the phone.

im glad it worked out and you will get your results shortly. praying everything turns out ok for you
I understand not wanting to switch doctors just bc the reception staff stinks, but i would be certain on your next visit to address this concern with your Doctor. Tell her the situation and maybe she was not aware of it and she can speak to her staff about their interactions with patients and keeping up on paperwork.

i understand not wanting to switch OB because you may like the Dr's but it sound slike more than just incompetant staff if you've been waiting for over 2 months for blood work results and a Dr. couldn't be bothered to give you a call himself to explain the situation.
But, glad everything is moving forward!!!!!

Good! I'm glad you were able to get your results. It stinks that the staff at your Dr's office is so incompetent. I also understand not wanting to change Dr, b/c its hard to find a place that has really good DRs and nurses and the front staff is just as important.
I think of, and God forbid, what if the results where bad and serious? I just wasted 2 months??? 2 months is a long time!
All in all, glad you're able to exhale
