taking a break from treatments...

Has anyone taken a break in between treatments? I am starting to feel really stressed and just feel if this month doesn't work, I need a break to clear my head and start again. Has anyone taken a break?

Re: taking a break from treatments...

I did 3 rounds of clomid, and I am now onto further testing before I start IUI's, so it has been two months of a sort of "break". Then if I am not pregnant by December, I will be taking at least a month off to travel and just enjoy the holidays.

I haven't been at this long, but I can see it taking a toll on me eventually and needing a break. There is nothing wrong with relaxing for a month and collecting your thoughts. I say if you feel you need it, do it.

yes, i've taken quite a few breaks! when we were doing IUI's, i took a month off between IUI #3 and IUI #4. after the 4th, we were advised to move on to IVF and i knew it was what we had to do but i wasn't mentally ready. we ended up taking off 9 months! lol. during that time, i still had some consults for second opinions but ultimately we weren't doing any treatments. i think i took "taking a break" to the extreme but for me it was what i needed to do. also, my marriage had taken a little bit of a beating from the stress of m/c and IF treatments so we wanted some time to just enjoy each other again without worrying about IF related stuff.

Yes. I took a break in between iuis and IVF. I was so stressed out. IF was taking a serious toll on my marriage. I couldn't look at a baby without crying, couldn't take the pregnancy annoucements, etc. DH was always my shoulder to cry on but it was starting to wear him thin as well.

We decided to go to Vegas and it was awesome! We drank and ate whatever we want. Saw shows and gambled and it was the first time in a long time I really felt like a piece of myself again,

After the trip we regrouped and moved onto IVF and we were both in a much better mental state. GL!

I'm almost at that point that I need a break. It'll be 2yrs in Jan and I'm ready to snap. I told dh if this month doesn't work we will do one more iui with pure injectibles since I haven't done it yet. I have to wait till next year to do IVF bc I have to get on my jobs insurance and I'm not 100% sure I want to go that route anyway. I always said I wouldnt do IVF but I have to figure out if that still holds true for me. I said I would never do injectibles and I'm doing them now and am not happy with it.

we took 2 months off. we needed to wrap our heads around our situation and figure out how far we were willing to go. i swore up and down that i would never do IVF but here we are.. ready to start next cycle. we needed that time to come together and work on us and our emotions.

if you feel overwhelmed and exhausted take a break. we all go through it. hang in there. Chat Icon Chat Icon

Yes we took a break between our first set of IUI's and our first IVF. I think I was just in denial and needed to process it. We also took a break for one year after our failed IVF.

Sometimes it is good to clear your head, reenergize and just spend some time off just being a couple. This can be such an emotional rollercoaster. Good Luck!

Yes. Never voluntary, really, but yes.

I will say that it helps to get off the hamster wheel and recharge. If you're feeling overwhelmed, plan a getaway and start fresh when you get back. It's so hard to take vacations when you're doing treatments.

We are at a point where we are not 100% what our next step is going to be. We have done two rounds of IVF in the last 5 months and both times our embryos were poor quality. We are taking this month to evaluate what we want to do in terms of moving forward. So far, I have enjoyed the last week of "normalcy".

I think breaks are always good. Mine have always been forced. During one forced break, I booked a trip and went to Bermuda! I found a great deal I couldn't pass up. It was great for DH and I. Good luck!

Re: taking a break from treatments...

I was never a "break" person. While I was cycling myself, I only took breaks when I had to- like after a loss or when I had leftover follicles after a failed cycle. At most, that was a month or two.

However..... after my last loss, we made the decision to pursue surrogacy. That was in December and we are currently in the middle of a surrogate cycle. Physically, this means nothing to me, as we have frozen embryos we will be using - but emotionally it's allllll the same Chat Icon The worrying .. the wondering ... the hoping ... the stress......

One thing I will say, after being off the drugs for several months, I was able to feel more like myself. I dropped 10 pounds FAST after stopping everything and I'm able to fit into my "pre-infertility" .. or aka "pre-drama" clothes.

Do I think a break is good? Yes. Would I take one if I didn't absolutely have to? Absolutely not! Chat Icon I think it all depends on the person though. For me, I just HAVE to feel like I'm doing something to move the process along. I know everyone's personalities are different.... we all go through this in our own ways.... ultimately you have to decide what's good for you and your dh!! Chat Icon Chat Icon

For what it's worth, I said I wouldn't do surrogacy. Chat Icon Chat Icon Ultimately, you do what you have to do to have your family. Hopefully it won't come to that decision!

Yes, I've taken numerous breaks- some forced between IVF cycles or surgical procedures and other times on my own pledge. I think what's important is listening to your emotions and your body. You're already saying that you "need" one, so take some time to gather yourself and get prepared for your next cycle. IMO, theres no sense in pushing yourself if you're not capable to continue treatments and aren't 100%. I think most of us (that have been on the IF journey for years) have been there and it was always a difficult decision but well worth it.

I would say if you need a break def take one...I am a person who cannot stand a break...I was on one for 2 months when I had a cyst and waited for my new RE...I need to constantly look forward so I dont lament on the past....IF is very stressful but I personally take comfort in knowing that I am doing something than just waiting around...I can also be crazy as well
