First appointment

I will be roughly 6weeks 5 days when I go for my first appointment. What happens at the first appointment and should my DH been there?

My first appointment was 6w6d. They did an internal sonogram so they could confirm the pregnancy and we saw the heartbeat. DH came because we were both anxious to make sure all was going well and to see the baby together for the first time.

I also had a ton of bloodwork done (8 tubes). Then i had a pelvic exam and a consultation with the dr to go over everything, including history on both sides (also why it was good to have DH there) and to talk about the do's and don'ts and answer questions.

First appointment

They drew a lot of blood and took my medical history. Then they scheduled a sonogram for the 8th week. DH can always come with, but for us, the first appt wouldn't have been worth a vacation day for him.

Likely you'll meet with the dr first who will take a history and give you lots of info. Then you'll have a sono to date the pregnancy, look for a hb and make sure everything is ok. You'll have blood work done to test for a bunch of things (your blood type, STDs, antibodies, etc). Then you'll get a pap if you haven't had one really recently.

It's definitely worth your DH coming b/c you'll get to see your LO's hb for the first time!

Thanks Ladies. I didn't realize all that would take place my first appointment. I am so glad i asked. I am definitely going to have DH come with me.
