Babies who are born in winter
We were told for bed to have DD in one extra layer from what we wore. I usually put a long-sleeve onesie on her and a sleep n play (footed one-piece PJ -- I liked the snaps better than the zippers, but people differ on that) on top. We only swaddled the first few days, so sometimes I'd put a light blanket on top of her in the rock n play over that, just tucking it under her arms.
And nothing sound stupid!!!
When we went out places, I'd usually have her dressed the same, but put a hat on her, sometimes booties over the footie PJs, and then a fleece blanket over her car seat until it warmed up in the car.

I would wait and see. The one extra layer is not really true and can over heat a baby.
Each baby is different and my DS was born in dec and he was always hot. Sweating in the middle of winter so we never had him bundled up.
Wait and see. They will let you know if they are hot or cold.

Re: Babies who are born in winter
our son was born in May. I am due with this baby in January so I have been thinking about this also.
I think, 1 warm layer (maybe a onsie under) and hat with a blanket to swaddle should be fine. Keep feet and head covered, makes a huge difference.

Babies who are born in winter
My girls were born early Dec and early Jan (in very cold winters). We were mostly inside, with heat on, so it wasn't a big deal. When it seemed extra chilly, I would put a tshirt under those full piece pajamas/outfits (fleece ones if really cold), and then would have them sleep in a swaddle me over that, or keep a blanket over us if I was holding her during the day. Always a little newborn cap. But, there were plenty of times where that was too much and they would sweat with all of that. Sometimes just a tshirt and the swaddle me. In the hospital, they only use tshirts and swaddle blankets--even in the winter.
