If you redid a bathroom
Did you have someone help design it? Or did you do it on your own? We want to gut our master bathroom. It's not really big and I feel like it could be layed out better. But I have no idea where to start or how to lay it out. Specific reccomendations aren't needed, because I live in White Plains, but I'm just curious how everyone went about it.

Re: If you redid a bathroom
I just redid mine :) There was not much design room because of the original layout. I just went with the flow of the original, but made some slight adjustments such as toilet size and tub width.

Re: If you redid a bathroom
when we did ours I pulled out the graph paper myself and did a bunch of different layouts playing with 1 sink, then 2, moving the tub, adding a linen closet etc.
After much debate kinda kept the same layout.
We are talking about redoing our master bath now and I have done the same thing except this time I KNOW things are going to be moving.

It sounds like this kind of help would be very useful. My mom had help when she redid her bathrooms. I never would have thought there was another way to lay out her master bath and keep it as a full bath, but they changed it now and it does not scream "small master bathroom," anymore. Her bigger hallway bathroom came out great and is a lot different from the layout we had there when I was growing up. Also, I believe that the previous owners of my house had some help as our bathroom layouts are completely different from the neighbors' who have the same model house. My mother also just did her kitchen and she knew of one change she wanted to make but b/c of that she had no idea where to put anything else. She likes the layout that she finally picked. I feel that I I'm pretty good at laying things out but I would still want someone who has done a lot of this tye of work to help me and I have to say that my mom's designer had more practical ideas than I did.

Re: If you redid a bathroom
When we re-did our old master we re-configured it and I basically had the idea in my head, I just needed the contractor to confirm what we were doing.

We kept the layout the same, just made a minor adjustment for a larger bathtub.

If you redid a bathroom
We redid ours and made it bigger by taking over a closet. We did not move any plumbing so there wasn't much change to the design.

If you redid a bathroom
We did our layouts ourselves, however I would recommend, go over to gardenweb.com in the forum section, they have an active bathroom forum and if you post a pic of your layout and what you want I'm sure some people will havce suggestion.
Also, the written/unwritten rule #1, you should NOT have your toilet accross from your door as the first things you see through the door.

We just redid it ourselves. We laid it out ourselves. Total redo. It was crazy and we had lots of problems but, it's done! Looks good too!

If you redid a bathroom
we gutted ours and used a bathroom designer - we actually gutted our whole house and the architect gave one design but the bathroom designer gave such a better design. If you do want a recomendation - our designer goes all over the place because she works out of her house

Re: If you redid a bathroom
We recently redid ours My brother is in contracting so he e took the measurements and gave me several options of what we could do. We closed up a closet door moved the linen closet and was able to gain enough space for a double sink
We cathedral the ceiling and that alone made a diference we also opted for a shower with a bench rather than a tub i love love love my new bathroom

If you redid a bathroom
We hired a contractor to gut ours and redo it. But we picked everything out ourselves at Home Depot/Lowes, including the tile, and the contractor just installed it.

Re: If you redid a bathroom
We kept the layout. Really we had alot of water issues so we gutted the walls and replace some wood. We kept the layout and vanity and installed a new tub, toilet and tile.
