My DS has been suffering from terrible constipation so the DR said to skip the rice cereal. I am wondering if oatmeal is constipating as well? Does anyone have a brand they really like or any other ideas? I really would like to stay organic if I can. I feel like giving him spoonfuls of fruits might be too much, I really want to mix it with something. TIA

we skipped the cereal for the same reason- dd got horrible gas and constipation from it. we moved on to veggies, then fruit. be careful w bananas- they are binding too, but everything else seemed fine. i make my own babyfood so i just cooked everything, then pureed it with water. good luck!

you don't have to mix it with anything. I would give prunes to get things moving again.

I've been making his fruit too, I was just watching other friends mix their fruit with oatmeal and wondering if I should be doing the same. You just give the fruit and veggies without anything added?

grains are difficult for children to digest. Nutritionists often recommend waiting until molars come in (and the gut is mature) to feed grains.

Give pears, prunes, apricots....I'm sure baby will love them and will get their digestive system going.

We don't give DS (8 months) cereal...it's empty calories relative to other whole foods. For iron we give him black bean soup...which he DEVOURS.
