XP from TTC- back from Dr. B- does anyone have these issues?
**Figured I'd also post this here in case any of you have successfully dealt with the same issues! Thanks!
Went for my follow up with Dr. Braverman yesterday. In addition to being ANA positive, I have 4 other issues, does anyone have experience with any of these??
1) My MTHFR gene has a double dose of the C677T mutation (I inherited one from each of my parents)….this can cause miscarriage and neural tube defects
2) My level of anticardiolipin antibodies is considered “intermediate” (so it’s not severe, but definitely a cause for concern)….I think this goes hand in hand with someone who is ANA positive like me (antinuclear antibodies) as it is also a red flag for auto-immune issues
3) My Factor VII level is elevated
4) My anti-annexin level is “borderline”- but since this varies he was not as concerned about this one
As per Dr. B out of all my issues, being ANA positive is the worst one, and that much I already knew I had. So for now I have to take Metanx every day (folate and B vitamins, since apparently my body has trouble absorbing them), a baby aspirin and I'm going to start Lovenox on my next cycle.
Even though Dr. Braverman doesn’t really think the development issues with Grace had anything to do with my auto immune issues, I can’t help but think it does. The fact that this MTHFR mutation blocks folic acid which is what promotes healthy fetal development, tells me that this MUST HAVE played a role in the brain malformation. I’ve even read that it causes birth defects, still birth etc…..so I really do think it is related. It’s like my body is a “perfect storm” of ingredients that aim to destroy pregnancies! It makes me so sad that I didn't go to see Dr. B after my 1st miscarriage, maybe it would have saved Grace

I have the MTHFR gene mutation, the same type as you homozygous c677t. Not one of my doctor's is concerned about it. My RE referred me to a hematologist and she said that if you test the entire population, 50% of people would come back with the same mutation and that I'm not "special". She said the only time it is dangerous if you're homocysteine levels are abnormal which mine were not. She didn't even think it was necessary to be put on baby aspirin or folic acid but my obgyn said it can't hurt so she told me to take them.

thanks, my biggest issue is being ANA positive, but at least Dr. B said all of my issues can be treated with Lovenox. Your doctor sounds very relaxed, but I suppose if you don't have a history of losses like I do than there's less of a reason to be concerned.

i don't have any experience with any of these things, but please don't beat yourself up for not seeing Dr. B earlier in this process. You could not have know what would happen to Grace and she would not want youto feel guilty over her passing like you could have prevented it. Its incredibly sad, but you have your own personal, guardian angel watching over you.

I'm so sorry! I think I would find a different doctor if they don't think MTHFR and your losses are linked!

Thank you so much for replying Gina!!! I know I have reason to have hope since I am working with Dr. B, and hearing from someone who also has 2 copies of this and is currently pregnant is so reassuring! May I ask which mutation you have? The one I have or the one that starts w/ an A? I hope I can get used to the Lovenox shots, I won't start taking it for probably a month (if AF ever returns!!

Re: XP from TTC- back from Dr. B- does anyone have these issues?
i have 2 copies of MTHFR C677T,aka homozygous
Some people are heterozygous. Example: One copy of A1298C from one parent.
i do not think but i am not positive u can have 2 copies of A...i think u can have 1 C and 1 A which would be compound heterozygous
i think u will get diff answers from diff people, some say the mutation has nothing to do with mc's ..i think they do,i am no doc all i know is my doc believed in it and i am finally holding a pregnancy so it was reason enough for me
the lovenox shots can def be daunting at first, esp if u bruise bc they can be scary but i promise it becomes second nature
if u need anything please let me know! wishing you all the baby dust in the world

Re: XP from TTC- back from Dr. B- does anyone have these issues?
I am compound hetero for MTHFR (Have one of each gene). I also have elevated PAI-1 and am 4G/4G (4G/5G polymorphism). I also have +ANA and +APS. I take Foltx, Lovenox and BA to help keep my pregnancies. I am on my third successful pregnancy and should give birth to baby #3 in 3 weeks. There has been some trouble along the way but well worth it all to get my dd, ds and now #3. I have been on Lovenox for all 3 kids and I promise it is not nearly as bad as it sounds
