I have the Kenmore Progressive canister and a stick vac from Hoover. Red one. I thought it would suck but it rocks..best $100 I ever spent.
Both of these do a great job.

just got the shark navigator pro and i LOVE it.
eta. i had the dyson ball before this and it was AWFUL. (we have wood floors, some area rugs and a short hair dog)

we got my mom a dyson, and while i think its great, i think its So heavy
makes me miss my electrolux harmony meatball vaccum lol
