SAHM: How & When do you clean your house?

I'm a SAHM ( with a some PTWHM mixed in tooChat Icon ). DS is 2 and ALWAYS running around and getting into everything. I try to work at night but the house is always a mess. How does your cleaning schedule work? Does DH help out with cleaning or take LO to a park on a weekend so you can tidy up?

I'm a PT WAHM, I generally do my cleaning at night or when the 2 litle ones nap. I'll put in a movie for my oldest and use that time to clean. She actually likes to "help" me.

DH would help but he is clueless.

Re: SAHM: How & When do you clean your house?

mostly when DS naps or is eating in his high chair (he'll stay in there a bit longer if necessary)

also, DH takes him to the park after dinner each evening (around 7) so I do a few things here or there.

on the weekends DH and DS for to ILs for the whole day. I use that to do some cleaning, do schoolwork, or relax

Re: SAHM: How & When do you clean your house?

I started off by doing one big huge cleaning and now I just go through the house daily and everything stays clean and it's A LOT easier then trying to do one, big cleaning which takes hours. I like that everything gets dusted and vacuumed more than once and my house is always clean and I never have to worry if someone drops by.

Also, EVERY night after my DD is in bed I pick up. Any toys that are out get put away, dishes are in dishwasher, counters wiped down, etc. so that the house is all ready to go for the next day. I NEED organization and a clean house.

Here's my schedule.

MONDAY
Clean bathrooms
Clean kitchen
Dust and vacuum den
Mop kitchen floor
Load of laundry

TUESDAY
Dust and vacuum bedrooms
Dust living room and dining room

WEDNESDAY
Vacuum and mop living room and dining room floors
Wipe down bathroom sinks
Load of laundry

THURSDAY
Free day - Use this to do bigger cleaning as needed (clean out fridge, clean oven, etc)

FRIDAY
Clean bathrooms
Clean kitchen
Dust and vacuum den
Load of laundry

SATURDAY
Dust and vacuum bedrooms

SUNDAY
Relax Chat Icon

**My DD is almost 4 and while it's harder to clean with her around she's always been mostly good while I clean, she either occupies herself or helps out. She usually Swiffers all of the wood floors for me, she loves it and it saves me time! Chat Icon Chat Icon **

SAHM: How & When do you clean your house?

Sahm during the summer - I try to clean little by little in the morning before we leave the house for te day. I will do kitchen/bathrooms at night while dd is in the bath and dh is home. Sometimes I'll do a deep clean in the weekends when dh is entertaining dd in the basement.

SAHM: How & When do you clean your house?

My DD just turned 1, my DH got me a cleaning lady for the summer as a mothers day gift. Before that it was hard, but I did it during naps and when she went to bed.
DH works overtime at least 3 days a week where he doesn't get home until at least 11pm. DD goes to bed at 8:30PM. She is VERY VERY active, so by 8:30 I am soooo tired. She does nap for 2 hours twice a day on most days, so I use the time to keep up with daily maintenance, laundry, straighten up the mess she made, take a shower, and eat. I feel like at this age it's very hard to keep up with the cleaning because they don't understand helping, they are just following behind you throwing everything on the floor.
So thank God for my summertime cleaning lady, and hopefully I can extend it to permanent lol

I agree with this, I find 15 minutes here and there throughout the day really helps and I never have to do a whole-house clean.... even if I find myself with 5 minutes I put it to use...

This exactly.
I'm a clean nut. When my body are occupied with eating, a movie, playing or napping I'll do a bit here and there. Just get one big one in once in a while. Also helps they go to sleep early and then I straighten up after. I don't like toys all over and need some adult rooms. Lol

Re: SAHM: How & When do you clean your house?

I don't! LOL

All kidding aside, I did have a cleaning lady who I let go, but I'm looking for another one now.

It's hard. I hate cleaning, but I also hate feeling like I"m cleaning ALL THE TIME.

Most of my house is barely used, the most used rooms in the house get cleaned daily, usually when they are napping so that I at least have SOME downtime for myself.

The rest usually a quick dust and vaccum run on the weekend, or on a morning my DD is in school and DS is occupied in the playroom.

I have no guilt over being a SAHM with a cleaning lady once a week. IMO, it's an expense worth it if you can swing it.

Re: SAHM: How & When do you clean your house?

We have EI therapists in our home daily.
So, every AM the kitchen gets wiped down, dishes done and I try my best to run the vacuum in the kitchen and den (where they work).

With bathrooms and bedrooms, I'll do a quick wipe down during the week, but, the weekends are usually for the deeper cleaning.

DH does vacuum and take care of the litter box every night while I give the kids their baths. We just got into that routine.

This AM we had no therapist come in, so, I did an early Target trip, ripped apart my den and threw out quite a few things (while DS is in school). It's nice to have a room a bit more organized.
