Question about giving sitter instructions
I spoke with our sitter almost three hours ago and she said that DD was not taking her bottle and had only slept for 20 minutes. I asked her to take DD for a short walk because she nearly always falls asleep and then try her with the bottle again. Our sitter mentioned that she thought it might rain and I said it didn't look like it (I even checked the weather channel on my phone at the time and it looks clear all afternoon for our town ).
I just called to see how DD did with the bottle and then her lunch (she did really bad with her lunch, barely a spoonful of veg). Anyway, I ask if she went for the walk and was told no. I am pissed. DD loves to go for walks. It would break the monotony of being in the house all day and maybe the fresh air would help her appetite. It also made me realize that they don't go for walks every day, maybe not even twice a week. I can understand if it is 90+ degrees out but I took DD out every day when I was on maternity leave once it was over 45 degrees.
I'm in a difficult situation because our sitter is my SIL and I always feel awkward "telling" her what to do with DD. Would this bother you or am I just PMSing?

Re: Question about giving sitter instructions
I have zero problem 'telling' anyone what to do for my kid .........sorry! If you told her to take her for a walk, she should have taken her for a walk - or at the very least in the backyard or something !!

Re: Question about giving sitter instructions
Oh... this is the problem of having in laws as sitters.
I'm so there.
My issue is I don't want them taking out my kids (I have 2 and it's hard to control them well esp my 2 yr old).
I have DH help mediate...
No... IMO, you are not PMSing... she should follow your instructions.

It's true! I have to be so diplomatic and DH feels like it's a personal attack on his family if I ever complain. SIL is wonderful with DD so I don't have many complaints.

Re: Question about giving sitter instructions
Are you paying her a normal sitter's rate? If so, I would say you have every right to make requests like that. Basically she is an employee who happens to be family.
If she's doing it for free or for just a fraction of what normal sitters charge, I would say it's kind of presumptuous to be dictating when they go for walks, because she's pretty much doing you a favor. In this case, I would say requests should be limited to health/safety issues.

We are paying her within a dollar of the going rate per hour and to balance it out I pay for a full day if she works half and a five day week if she works four.
