Where to stay in Florida Keys?
Looking to do a Florida Keys trip.
Would it be a good vacation for family with kids.
Also looking for feedback/recommendations on hotels for family with kids.
Needs to be near or on the beach. Close to restaurants/shops. And have a nice pool
Still needs to be "quiet" and NICE!!!!
TIA

Dh and I went to Key West twice and we love it! But, I wouldn't recommend it as a family vacation. If you have small kids, and don't want to go to Disney, then I would recommend Marco Island, near Fort Myers. There is a Mariott in Marco Island and they have kids activities and pools.
Key West is for singles or couples.

Maybe one of the other Keys would be good for families but, I found Key West to be more of an adult place (ie you can find an establishment to drink at 21 hrs a day).
I was pregnant when we went, so obviously sober, and I only saw a handful of kids there. I didn't have that great of a time because I couldn't do the things I would have wanted to (water sports, moped sightseeing, drinking, etc).

Kids are not banned from the keys but I would not suggest Key West. While I love it and have been there myself tons of times it is mostly an adult town. There are many places that are clothing optional, drinking all hours and on the streets. The hotels also tend to cater more to the adults and not so much for the kids. Key West also does not have the nicest beaches.
Islamorada is smaller and more low key. Very beautiful and you could always drive to key west for the day if you really wanted.

Re: Where to stay in Florida Keys?
Just to clarify, I wouldn't take small kids to Key West because it's just not a family friendly place. At night, the streets are full of drunk partiers bar hopping. And some of the bars are clothing optional. There was a "clothing-less" guy standing at the front area of one bar near the window ordering a drink..I noticed this while we were passing the bar on the street (so I wasn't even inside the bar)...and this was at 11PM on a Tuesday or Wednesday night. You don't want your kids seeing stuff like that if they are small.
Plus, you asked for a quiet hotel. The word "quiet" does not describe Key West at all.

If you want to go to one of the keys with your kids, I reccomend in Key Largo the Marriot Resort and the hilton. The only problem is that the beach area of the marriot is small and not that nice

Re: Where to stay in Florida Keys?
Personally I didn't like Key West. There really aren't any nice beaches and it is mostly bar crawling. Plus we had a view of a naked beach and watched people playing naked volleyball from our balcony lol
I would look into Siesta Key (which is actually on the gulf side, not part of the other keys) or Sanibel Island.

Cheeca Lodge in Islamorada is exactly what you're looking for.
