Anyone have an emotional/sensitive DS?

My son is 4 and he can be the craziest, sweetest, funniest little boy but I am concerned that he is too sensitive and worried about when he goes to schoolChat Icon . I don't feel like he sticks up for himself and am so sad thinking that he may be bullied in school because of it. Poor thing was just tearing up watching Toy Story 3 (I mean I was too but was surprised he did that).

How do you teach your children to be strong minded if it doesn't seem to be a natural character trait for them?

Re: Anyone have an emotional/sensitive DS?

I don't have advice for you but my 2.75 yr old (he's 33 months so not quite 3) is I think very sensitive. He cries when he hears certain songs - I guess he associates them to something but he can only tell me they make him sad (eg Twinkle Twinkle). My DS doesn't stick up for himself much yet either, will only ocassionally take a toy back that someone tried to tak from him.

Curious to see what others have to say.

I think the best thing to do is embrace who he is - sensitive - and accept it.

Boost his confidence in other ways. Sports, art, music, or what have you.

Being sensitive can be a good thing; he will be sensitive to other's needs and will make a good friend to others.

Re: Anyone have an emotional/sensitive DS?

My DS is sensitive. He cries in movies and even certain music can trigger him. But he's also a tough little guy. Standing up for himself isn't an issue. Even still, I always remind him that he's his own person and that he should go what is right and never be a follower, especially if someone is trying to get him to do or say something he knows is wrong. Your son doesn't need to be forceful to stick up for himself. Just remind him and try to instill that he always has choices. And when faced with a tough situation to sit back and think about what's right and wrong and let the right choice be his guide.
