Sports/Activities for 3 yr old

Although DS is in daycare and has plenty of activity there and stimulation, I feel like there is so much pressure to put your kids in sports or other activities. That being said, what kind of activities/sports do you have or have you had your 3 yr old in and where do you get the information about these programs?

We did have him in soccer last year at 2 and although he still talks about it, I'm not sure if he is ready for it again (would throw toddler tantrums and stop listening to the coach after a few weeks.)

Re: Sports/Activities for 3 yr old

DS did swimming and kickball last year (3). This year I will probably do swimming, soccer in the fall, and t-ball in the spring. He has been asking for Karate and gymnastics too but I am not sure about those and don't want to overschedule him!

Re: Sports/Activities for 3 yr old

My girls are 3 1/2 and almost 6. The only thing my 6 year old does is Daisy's in school. From time to time I ask them if they are interested in taking any lessons and they both keep saying no.

At this time I don't see the point in pushing them to do something they aren't totally into - seems like it will just be a big headache to drag them every week and a waste of my time and money. I know the day will come when they do want to do something and I will be ready Chat Icon They are only kids once and the older they get, the more scheduling and running around you have.

The one thing I have pushed in the past is swimming lessons but that is because we have an inground pool and I think it is really important for safety reasons.

Re: Sports/Activities for 3 yr old

DS has been in swim lessons for about 1.5 years. (started when he was 3). We did soccer with him last year and it was eh. He cried a lot and didn't seem too into it. We opted not to put him back in this year. He just recently started karate and seems to really like it, so we'll probably continue with that. I'd like to start him in t-ball next spring.

Ann turned 3 on 7/1 and is in FT daycare. We enrolled her in soccer this spring at daycare (30 mins once a week for 8 weeks).

We have her signed up for gymnastics in the fall and will probably do private swim in early winter.

Depending on how she likes gymnastics, I may or may not put her in a dance class when I'm in Zumba (at the same dance school).

Re: Sports/Activities for 3 yr old

DD does dance year round now shes 4.5 (started when she was 2.5)
she did soccer this year from May-July
the previous 2 summers she did gymnastics during the summer, but not anymore.

she enjoys it all and i never have to force her to go so i think its worth it in our situation.

she also wants to learn to skate, so i will look at when the lessons are this winter and see if it fits with our schedule.

DD#1 will be 3 in November. She is starting Montessori preschool this week and will be doing art, music & yoga as well as learning Spanish in the morning and French in the afternoon. I think that is enough for a 3 year old!

If she was not in that program, I would be looking into dance class for her (she is really into Angelina Ballerina right now) and a classical music class where she is exposed to different instruments.
