Do I seriously need all this stuff on the list?

6 pairs of crib sheets?
Splat mats for high chair?

Some of it seems like such a waste. Would love to hear your opinions on what are the must haves, and what was a waste.

No splat mats are definitely not necessary. I have 3 crib sheets for DS and think that's fine.

Eta: if you're going off of a list from BBB or BRU, then I would say 8 out of 10 things are either a waste or the quantity listed is just not necessary.

no. I got one ultimate crib sheet and hated it. I would get 3 or 4 regular crib sheets and one mattress pad protector. I also use the chuck pads between them to protect the mattress.

Re: Experienced Mommies - registry advice needed

I think 3 sheets are enough. I never had a splat thing. A lot of the things on the lists are not necessary.

Others not necessary to me:
bottle warmer - hated it, used a pot of boiling water
wipes warmer

Re: Experienced Mommies - registry advice needed

we had two crib sheets and the ultimate crib sheet- only used the ultimate crib sheet for the first few months...

Never wished for a splat thing...

nope!
i think most of the items are a waste and never got them.

no's for me:
wipes warmer
bottle warmer
special pitcher for powder formula
swaddle blankets (DS was swaddled for maybe a week and then we didn't bother)
different sets of bottles (i bought one and that's what DS drank from)
and overall less quantities :
three bed sheet covers were more than enough.
two mattress protectors to switch out when needed (but more when DS was older 9 months +)
3 blankets was plenty

Re: Experienced Mommies - registry advice needed

must haves for me:
2-3 crib sheets
waterproof protectors. i use one in the crib and one in the pack and play
2 pack and play sheets
waterproof changing pad, i use it on top of my changing pad so the cover actually never really gets dirty.
rock and play (loved this thing)
bottle brush and drying rack (i dont have a dishwasher so i use these items daily)
wash cloths (i got a ton but i use them a lot, not only for bath but for easy clean up after meals and such)
blankets you only need a handful
burp cloths i used a alot in the beginning, they spit up a lot!
sleep sacks for the winter
bundle me - loved this

items i never bothered to get and didnt miss:
wipe warmer
bottle warmer
diaper genie (i just throw them in the garbage)
different bottles (i got dr. browns and thats what he took from day 1)
the diaper holder that comes with the bedding. i have a canvas bin on my changing table/dresser that i use for diapers, works just as well.
swaddle blankets - DS wasnt really into it and i would just do it with a blanket if i needed to
no splash mat for high chair but i do have the mat that you travel with that you stick to the restaurant table so they can eat off the table and i use that all the time, as well as the high chair/shopping cart cover

Splat mat?? I have something better, 2 dogs!! You don't really need a lot of the stuff. One of the things I wish I didn't get is the crib set. It was over $200. We never used the bumpers, blanket just sits on rocking chair as decoration, ruffle had to be taken off last week when we lowered crib and the mobile can only stay on for 5 months before it is a safety hazard. Also, travel stroller system. We originally registered for one but then decided on just a snap and go and a maclaren. IMO it was so much easier thank a bulky stroller. Now, I wear my DD in a carrier most of the time so I rarely use the stroller.
