Yes, the supplies can be quite expensive. For some reason the testing strips cost more for me than the lancets I think.
For food, it really depends on what your body reacts to. What are your problem foods? What makes your numbers spike? Just try to avoid those. Don't have an appetizer and a dessert, just eat the main course or main course plus one of those. My numbers only go high when I pig out on the bread basket and have dessert all in one sitting. Any normal meal is usually fine for me. But I would avoid white pasta, something with a lot of rice. White breads and white rices seem to bring my numbers higher than anything else. Eat protein, healthier carbs (salad or vegetables, whole wheat pasta, etc.). Make sure you drink water and nothing with sugar or fruit juice.

ooops... I meant the testing strips were like $90 and another $10 on the lancets...... I can't imagine having to test year round.

They restricted me to no fruit juice, fruit not as a snack, and not for breakfast either.... My readings the last 2 days were fine except the one after breakfast this morning( 2eggs and ham on roll).... Totally confused me because a roll was within the carb grams I'm suppose to be allowed to eat....maybe the roll was too large.

For me what always worked was more protein, double to triple the protein as any amount of carbs. If something had potatoes or pasta I'd ask for a substitute of veggies. I also couldn't eat fruit or anything like that due to the quick sugar spike.

Have you considered changing brands of meter/test strips/lancets? I changed mine to Target's Up and Up brand, lancets $36 per 100 strips and lancets I think $3.99 per 100, and that is without insurance, by switching I saved $80/month. Just had my doctor write a script for the specific brand. Hope that helps :)

wow, great to know their is a more affordable option. The diabetes center set me up with the OneTouch Ultra Mini and I had no clue what was out there..
I'm starting to think maybe Grand Luxe would be a safe option with some of their salad... There was a manhattan salad which was loaded with veggies, salad, meat and cheese.
