Baby Bargains book

So I just received this in the mail.....and HOLY CRAP! I'm overwhelmed just flipping through the book!!!

What is the best way to tackle this book and go about researching?? Do you find products first...and then look up the reviews? Or read the book from cover to cover?

I'm 13 weeks so I am no where near registering....but I am a neurotic planner and like to do my research beforehand.

i started with the big things i needed like the stroller and car seat and looked at those reviews. I also looked up reviews on amazon for the top two or three i had in mind. If the reviews were good on both, i went to the store to look at them in person and then registered for my favorite one.

It's definitely not a book that i'd be able to read from cover to cover.

It did seem overwhelming at first, but actually the book made the registering process so much easier for us. We just stuck with only items that got A ratings. We didn't fully read the book before registering, just the sections that interested us. But we brought the book to BRU when we registered, so when we came to each category, we looked to see what brands got good ratings, and what brands were available in the store, and that helped us narrow it down a lot. Then it was just a matter of choosing between price ranges, colors, etc.

Dont read it cover to cover, that will overwhelm you. When I went to register ,I used it as a reference to check out the things I liked. I saw two infant car seats I liked and looked both up to help me decide.

I suggest not reading it cover to cover either. I started off with Cribs; strollers and Car seats. I stuck to the products that got A ratings; and then researched them on other sites too (Amazon/BRU); then went into the stores to see them in person (still need to look at Cribs). I've since read the sections on high chairs; and baby clothing. I plan to take the book with me when I register to help pick out the smaller items while in the store.

I read it cover for cover making a list of items that were the best value and quality. I then read reviews of the items online (amazon) and reviewed everything with my husband. I already finished my registry as I am at the end of my pregnancy. I only registered at BBB, however if I could go back in time I would register at BRU as well as they are less expensive.

Re: Baby Bargains book

I wouldn't say I read it cover to cover, but I did pretty much follow it in order. I wrote down notes in a seperate notebook under each category (ie 'crib', 'carseat', highchair', etc.) based on their recommendations of what brands/styles to check out. So I had each major category narrowed down to 2 or 3 brands and then did further research online and in the stores. It's definitely a really helpful book, just try not to overwhelm yourself with too much info at once. Pick one or two items at a time to focus on, make your notes so you don't forget, and take as many breaks as you need in between! Good luck!

Taking notes in a separate notebook is a good idea. Thanks!

It makes sense to look up things I may be interested in over reading cover to cover

I read it cover to cover and highlighted and tabbed it. I found it pretty fun, actually. When I got pregnant again, I went back and reread parts.
