Please recommend where to look for affordable nursery furniture. From reading Baby Bargains I was looking at the Graco Sara Crib, but I saw the Baby Cache heritage (another recommendation ) and liked that one but not the $499 price tag! Are their any other really great cribs under $300?? Also we need a dresser that can double as a changing area (not getting a seperate changing table). Any recommendation for a sturdy dresser under ($300)?. Would like it to match the espresso color crib.

I plan on visiting buy buy baby & babies r us this weekend, is Behrs and Bellini out of my budget? Should I even check there?

thanks!!

I too am only looking for a crib and dresser to use as a changer. I have been looking at JCP furniture. They have some great prices on sets and individual items and most include free shipping. Only downfall is you can't see them in store.

I also found the Davinci Kalani set that is pretty afforable and the Graco Lauren.

Re: Affordable Nursery Furniture

Behrs are about $600-700 per dresser. The set I wanted was $1900 just for 2 dressers and a hutch but no crib. BBB does have some cribs and dressers that are on the lower end ($300). Try Penneys or Ikea too. We are doing better BBB furniture (Bonavita) with coupons, but cheapo $179 cribs from Target because we don't want to spend extra $ on the high back convertables we will never use as a bed. The cribs we want are sorta plain and not the sleigh/arch style.

Go on BBB.com and register as many emails as pieces you want to buy and they send you a 20% off coupon right away. We used one for each piece we got there.

our cribs were 299 -davinci anastasia in white and they came with the mattress.
Also, look at buying "non children" furniture because it will be much mess expensive. We settled on the "Brook" dresser and chest in white from Bobs.

http://www.mybobs.com/BROOK.aspx

Without the mirror, the dresser and chest come to $600.

Affordable Nursery Furniture

We got DD's crib at BBB and bought the crib, dresser, and hutch. It was expensive but a present from grandpa. This time, I'm actually looking at the graco cribs which are under $200 and repurposing a dresser we already have in our guest room. I honestly NEVER use DD's dresser, but I want her to have it because it's a lovely piece of furniture. But for our boy, I'm not as picky lol. Such a double standard.

The crib we have from BBB was closer to $600 and is made by the same company that makes the graco cribs (LaJobi) -- it's Bonavita. I really love it and it's super sturdy and wonderful. My understanding is that the wood quality is different and the graco ones are softer wood that doesn't hold up as well. But it depends on how long you'll be using it for, how much you want to spend. I grew up with a twin bed, not a full size, so I'm not so certain about converting it to a full any time soon. I'd also like to go straight from the crib to a twin bed, not a toddler size bed so I'm not sure I need that conversion either!

Kinda hard decisions to make in advance, but those are some of the reasons for the price discrepancies. If you know you only want a crib and it doesn't matter if your kid hacks it to pieces like a beaver as they teethe, then a less expensive one could work.

I've never, ever changed DD on a high surface. I have always put the changing pad right on the floor and changed her there. Highly recommend. Now at 18 m, she crawls right into her "changing spot" and it's super convenient. I also never had her fall off the changing table (VERY common when they wiggle) nor had to wrestle or sit on her to keep her down while she squirmed during a change.

Thanks for all the suggestions!!! I'm going to look at BBB; BRU and even try Bob's & Ikea too!! I just was concerned with the pieces not matching; but if I can find something close enough and save $$ that would be great! Also good to know I can use the BBB 20% off on furniture!! That would help us get a higher priced crib or dresser down to our budget.

Re: Affordable Nursery Furniture

We have the Renew Crib in coffee from JCP - is identical to the PB Kendall crib. Its also better - it has three heights and PB has only two.

We also have the Rockland changer from JCP - eh. It's OK. Won't last past this baby that's for sure.

If you're into modern design - check out Babyletto - they're reasonable.

Check out Walmart's website. They have a lot of different brands, most at the lowest prices we were able to find, and .97 cent shipping on a lot of it too. We decided on the Graco Lauren ($150) based on Baby Bargains reccomendation, and we're very happy with it.

We got a dresser at IKEA that will also double as the changing table. A low, 6 drawer dresser and a 4 drawer chest came to under $300.

The best price we were able to find on our mattress was on Amazon, if that helps too. (Colgate Classica, $160ish).

Affordable Nursery Furniture

We bought our set for our 1st from walmart.com We got the crib, mattress, a tall 5 drawer dresser, a changing table, and a long dresser that doubles as a changing table now. We paid $799 for it all no shipping since we did ship to store for free. It is now in dc #2's room and we love it! It is all Graco furniture. I do not believe you need to spend a lot on nursery furniture.

We ordered from jcp! The furniture is gorgeous!!!! I was a little leary about not being able to see it as well. It came super fast too! Within 2 weeks max I think.

what color dresser did you go with from IKEA? I was looking at either the Graco Lauren or Sara. But I was concerned it woudln't match with one of the IKEA dressers (I was looking at the Hemnes (sp))

We decided on white furniture, so matching for us wasn't an issue. But I think the black-brown from IKEA would probably go well with espresso. We liked the Hemnes and another dresser that I can't remember the name of, but they were actually out of stock when we were at IKEA and DH was set on walking out with something, so we wound up with the MALM. It was def not my first choice, but it was so inexpensive and so easy to put together! I am happy we wound up with it now.
