life never goes how you think it will
went for my 3rd monitoring appt this morning and about an hour or so after i left, my phone rang and it was dr wang (not a good sign). turns out my progesterone is rising prematurely (despite taking ganirelix everyday) and my LH is starting to rise as well.
so, the plan is to trigger tonight, do the retrieval on tuesday morning and then freeze whichever embryos make it to day 6. then i have the option of doing a natural FET or a medicated FET as soon as i get AF (or whenever i want)
i'm not worried about the delay. for god's sake we've waited 3 years to have a baby so a month or so won't kill me....BUT i'm so scared we won't have any embryos make it to day 6.
if this has happened to you and you've had success with the FET, i would love to hear positive stories.
thanks

Re: life never goes how you think it will
I'm so sorry for this crazy roller coaster!! I can identify with how frustrating it is ... as you know We did a freeze-all cycle for my last fresh, but it was due to my crappy lining. I have to admit, you seem to be taking the delay way better than I did. I was just ready to punch a wall at that point! On the plus side, I find the wait for these things goes much faster than you think it will. Also, with the freezing techniques these days, the success of an FET is comparable to a fresh. We are doing an FET for my surrogate cycle. Do you have a reason to believe your embryos won't make it to freeze? If not, then try not to get too caught up in thinking about it. You can literally drive yourself crazy worrying from one step to the next.

Roller coaster is right! I'm wondering if perhaps the raising progesterone was the issue with you not getting pregnant with the iuis. Maybe doing this is giving some insight and can turn out to be a good thing.

thanks girls :) it really is such a roller coaster. i guess i feel like this is what is meant to be and honestly i was worried b/c august is such a busy month (at both of my jobs) ;) and i was worried how i'd handle such a busy schedule while being pregnant. so we probably won't do the FET until my sept AF.
i don't know why i have this fear about the embryos not making it to freeze. dr. wang said i can't even think that way and i know he's right. i guess i'll feel better when they are safe and sound in their little freezers (no idea where they are kept!) lol.
i agree that i may have prematurely ovulated with the IUI's. i'm also worried that i'll prematurely ovulate before i go in for the retrieval on tuesday but dr. wang doesn't feel like this will happen. i did an extra shot of ganirelix when i got home.
ughhhh.....i don't know. such a mixed bag of emotions!!!!!

Re: life never goes how you think it will
The same exact thing happened to me last Wednesday. My progestrone level was 16! (normal is 2-5), they recommended I freeze everything and do a medicated FET in a few weeks. After sitting down with the doctor on the day of my retrieval, I feel much better. He basically told us with those levels we might have a 10% chance and even if we did get pregnant the baby would always be playing "catch up".
Anyway, I can absolutely relate and it was really terrible news to receive but I want a healthy baby so we will just have to wait.
Hang in there, I know it feels like it was so close but its still there, there is a light at the end of the tunnel!

thank you soooo much for responding. my progesterone was only at 2 yesterday but they want it to be at less than 1 on the day of trigger. the dr. (who is very sweet) showed me the study that shows chances of implantation go from like 48% to 28%. i'm totally ok with waiting (well.....sorta) but i just pray for good embryos to freeze.
if you don't mind me asking, how many did you end up with frozen?

Not at all, they retrieved 48, 33 were mature, and as of yesterday (day 3) we had 23. Tomorrow we find out how many make it to freezing. The doctor said about 80% of really good.

that's awesome!! how many follicles did you have before the retrieval? i only have about 15 so i'm really hoping we get a decent number that fertilize.
