CIO Help....please....
Who did CIO? DS has been sleeping TERRIBLY so I decided to give it a try. He cried for almost an hour...I went in twice to soothe him to no avail. Finally I tried rocking him (no), giving him water (no), and then caved and gave him a bottle....are they supposed to cry for 50 minutes?!?! I know I need to do it but it is exhausting on top of really hard to watch him cry in his crib!

Re: CIO Help....please....
My ped told me that her own daughters cried for like an hour and a half at first so I think it can go for quite long.
Not something I'm comfortable with.

Yes my ped is the one who suggested I do CIO. When I told him I felt bad to let my son cry he told me that my son not ever getting a good nights sleep isn't any better for him...

I think you know this already, but I used Ferber. (So did Michelle with E). It's like CIO in intervals. L was a little younger, but cried on and off for an hour and a half the first night. It was Hell, not gonna lie. By the second night, it was easier... and by the third, she cried for a few minutes and STTN. I wound up "Ferberizing" for naps too.

Pediatricians are great for medical advice....parenting or child psychology, you're better equipt to handle that being as you're the mother. If you continue to feel bad then don't do it.

This is what I did, too. I'm in the process of getting my Ph.D in psychology and my dissertation is on sleep disturbances in children, so needless to say, I did a ton of research on it. I really truly believe this method works. We did it 6.5 mos and in three days DD was sleeping through the night. Naps took us until 9.5 months, but likely because I wasn't consistent.

We used Ferber, too. My DS was STTN by night 3 and at that point he was used to waking up 2-3x a night.
I wasn't comfortable having him just scream his head off for 1 hour+, so this method really worked for us.

Ferber here too - at 4.5 months. Was sleeping through the night by the third night - and has ever since (now 14 months old).
Good luck!
