Any way around Jet Blue flight change fees
I have never flown Jet Blue. Booked a trip to Dominican Republic. When I booked it, it was $100 a person less to have a lay over in Boston going home. I hated to pick that flight. I never fly with lay overs, but wanted to save $200. Now I see the direct flight that leaves an hour later than my flight is cheaper than the one I booked and is a nonstop flight. I called and they said it is $100 a person to change, even if I want to change it to another flight that leaves an hour apart on the same day. Is there any way around this fee? I am used to Southwest and am always changing my flights and never a change fee.

I'm pretty sure you're out of luck :( This is a huge reason I try to only fly SW but sometimes it's just unavoidable. I'm assuming the $100.00 is more than the difference n price?

Re: Any way around Jet Blue flight change fees
Yes...now I am loving Southwest. The price is the same, but wanted to change from flight home with layover to nonstop flight, as that price went down to the same as what I paid, but I would have to pay $100 each for me and DH, so I am paying $200 more. I never do layovers, but did because the layover flight was a lot less, but now the nonstop flight fee went down and it is the same price as what I paid with the layover. I can see charging some kind of fee, but $100 a person is a bit much.

I'd call
Otherwise can you cancel and then rebook? I would think that if you can do that, then they would just change it for you.

Re: Any way around Jet Blue flight change fees
I fly JetBlue often. I know that if you change the flight after midnight the day of your flight, you can change it for about $40 per person (that might have gone up to $50.) I would call and ask about that. If you think there might be enough seats open, I would take that chance. What do you have to lose, worst case, you are still on the flight with the layover.

What's the difference in price? If its $50 less, then really you're only paying $50 more then the original price to have a direct flight. For me, that would totally be worth it.

It turns out now that the price is the same. So I would only be paying just the change fee of $100 each for the two of us. I hate to have to pay $200 just to switch.

I thought they said to change the same day is $50. The two flights are around the same time. Is it true that if I go up there in time to check in and ask to change, they will do it with no fee? The rep on the phone said to change on same day is $50.

Many airlines have stopped doing this - even if there are seats available, they charge $50-$100 to change that day (which is frustrating when there is a flight to your destination with seats available leaving before the one you are on!).
They usually only waive the fee if your flight is delayed.

Re: Any way around Jet Blue flight change fees
The other thing is, if I try to change that same day, if there is availablility, who knows what the fare will be at that point. It could be several hundred dollars more. Then I have the $50 fee plus the difference in fares. Ahh...I was afraid we would have no flight, so booked early and fares were so high so I had to go with the layover flight, but in the end I should have waited, as the prices all went down.

If you change the same day, at the airport, you will just have to pay the $50 change fee - not the difference in fares - if there is availability.

Re: Any way around Jet Blue flight change fees
Did the direct flight exist when you booked the one with a stopover? If they recently added the flight, they may be flexible with you, but that's really all I can think of. If there's an error or change on their part, they are VERY flexible, but if it's you, they'renot going to be.
You could also make a big stink about it and say you booked early as they encourage you to do, and now you feel you're disadvantaged for having done so.

It sucks to not save the $200, but since the money has technically been sent already, I would just go ahead and switch to the direct flight.

Any way around Jet Blue flight change fees
I went through this recently with Jet Blue. I had to push back my flight one week. I was charged the $100 pp fee and also had to pay a higher price for the air fare. (of course it was a higher fare).
