Re: Washington DC

We stayed one night at Hotel George - Kimpton Hotel. it was very nice. Got a good deal on it through hotwire. It was listed as a 4 star hotel in DC.

We were in DC for the 4th. Staying in the city is a lot more expensive than staying just outside the city in MD or VA. The DC Metro system is great and services the suburbs as well as the city. Union Station (Amtrak) is on the red line, so they might want to take a look at the Metro map and find something near one of the stops along that line so that they aren't hauling their bags up and down escalators transferring between lines.

If they are willing to stay off the red line, we stayed at the Embassy Suites Crystal City (Arlington, VA). Quick walk to the Crystal City Metro stop or the hotel provided a shuttle to the Pentagon City Metro Stop. Could catch the blue or yellow lines at each stop, which were super convenient to get into the city. Hotel provided free shuttle to restaurants in Crystal City and to/from Reagan National Airport.

We stayed at the Grand Hyatt Washington DC. It was closer to Chinatown. It was a great location and fantastic hotel. We got a deal on-line. It was a quick walk to pretty much everywhere you wanted to go.

We stayed at the Marriott at Dupont Circle and it was a great location - right between Foggy Bottom, Georgetown and Dupont Circle.

I would highly recommend eating at Belga Cafe near Capitol Hill. It was one of the best meals we have ever had and we still talk about it.

The Washington plaza affordable and has an outdoor pool. Most hotels in DC don't have an outdoor pool.
