Re: How do you know if your dryer is going?
it's stops drying you clothes. But even then it could just be a clogged vent.

I've noticed that it's not drying all the way. Maybe I should pull it out from the wall and check the hose.

My dryer stopped turning one day. My husband bought the rubberband part on amazon for a couple of dollars and installed it after watching a step by step video on you tube.

The drum has been squeaking for years but still turns. It's just not drying very well on larger loads.

Most of the time, that means there's a clog somewhere in the exhaust vent. It could be inside the dryer itself, inside the tube from the dryer to the wall, or in the outside wall vent.
Is it getting warm in the dryer? If the clothes are wet, but very warm, then the heater part is working. If you can see or hear the clothes tumbling, then the drum is OK. Those are the 3 main parts of the task. Heat, tumble, vent....

yes it gets hot. Just not all the way dry. Have to run it twice. I need to clean it all out before I have a fire.

Re: How do you know if your dryer is going?
From the dryer to the wall, do you have metal tubing, or plastic? If you have plastic, don't even bother cleaning it, just buy flexible metal ducting from HD. It's much safer, fire-wise, and more airflow efficient.
If running it 2x gets the clothes dry, it's definitely clogged. Start with the easiest parts first (make sure there isn't anything in the removable filter area, then work on the ducting from the dryer to the wall, check the wall opening while you're right there). If it's still not drying that great, you'll have to open the dryer, and clean inside, but hopefully it won't get to that point.
