Do your kids expect to receive a favor when they go to a birthday party?

3yo DS loves getting favors from birthday parties. When we left a party today, he was asking me where the favor was. I really really hope the host didn't overhear him.

Do your kids expect favors?

I don't know how to teach him not to expect one.

At a childrens party, yes, I think my kids would have a similar reaction. At a regular party, no.

eta: I think my kids would move past it rather quickly, because when it happened they only asked when we were in the car. So it was noticed, but not a big deal for them.

My son is 2.5 and wouldn't expect one or be disappointed if he didn't get one. I don't think he would even think of it. But he does get excited when he gets one!

Yes. My DD is 4.5 and when she goes to a party she expects a goodie bag.

My 4 yr old daughter asked me once when the host forgot to give them out and I explained to her that not everyone does favors and it is rude to ask. I was a kids party at a kids place....so yes.

No, it's not a blip on their radar and they are 3 and 5 years old.

no not at all. I find a lot of kids dont do it anymore, which is fine with me! Its usually junk or junk food anyway.

mine is way too young to even know what that is...but as the host at a place that does birthday parties it happens often that I hear kids say "where's my goodie bag?" or "I want a goodie bag!"

Same here. the favors usually dont last long in our house if its candy or those silly toys. Maybe thats why he doesnt expect it.

He does get excited when he gets one though.

The only time DS gets candy is in those favor bags. We never buy it for him otherwise.

The favors we receive vary greatly. Most favors he receives includes a real toy.

I had a talk with him that not all parties hand out favors. We discussed manners and how it is rude to expect a favor. I don't know if it stuck.

I don't really see it as "rude" to expect a favor. I'm really impressed that your 3y/o noticed a pattern in the fact that he usually gets one!

I remember when I was little, I couldn't wait for my parents to come home from a wedding to see their favor and hoped there were Jordan almonds involved. Lol.

That's probably why I go totally overboard now on the favors I give at my parties. I want people to really get joy out of them! I would never NOT give favors out... to me, I think THAT can be bordering on "rude"... unless it was a case of just totally forgetting to hand them out. That happens to the best of us!

My little guy wouldn't notice, but my older one definitely would. And he would definitely say something.
