Re: Do you give your DC water, juice or combo of both?

My DD always coughs a little (would not consider it choking) when she drinks water. I think she just drinks too fast! I never even thought that adding juice would prevent that, mostly because a little cough didn't even worry me.
DD gets water only. She's gotten watered down prune juice when she was super constipated once.
Same here!

Re: Do you give your DC water, juice or combo of both?
My son is 2.5 y/o and gets water with a splash of juice in it. We started him with water at 5.5 months. He will drink water out of a water bottle and occasionally will steal my glass of water. I started him on a splash of juice around 9-10 months. The only way he would take his vitamins. He doesn't get straight up juice unless he is constipated. Clears him right out! He only gets 100% fruit juice- 4-6 oz a day.

For the most part DS gets plain water, but with dinner I give him water with a splash of organic blueberry juice. It has no added sugar, the only ingrediant listed is blueberries.
OOh this might be good for DS's iron meds. What is the brand? TIA
Lakewood Organic Pure Blueberry Juice. I buy it at Whole Foods.

I didn't start water or juice until DS was well over a year old. There is just no need for it. Breast milk is thirst quenching and formula has water in it as well. After that, I would always mainly give water but when I introduced juice, it was diluted in water.

DD drinks water, juice diluted with water and regular old juice. Ice pops too. I'm just not crazy about stuff like that.

Re: Do you give your DC water, juice or combo of both?
DD is 15 months. I tried to get her to drink regular water and she refused. She would go all day long without drinking ANYTHING. I started putting a splash of juice in it and she started drinking. Would I rather her drink plain water? Yes. Would I rather her be hydrated then dehydrated? YES!
I try to put less and less juice until it's a little drop and she starts refusing to drink.
I brush her teeth 2x/day.
The dentist yelled at me too.
As for the "choking". Water and juice have the same viscosity. They are both thin liquids. So adding juice won't make it thicker.

Do you give your DC water, juice or combo of both?
14m and never had juice. there is no nutritional value to it. rather just give her a piece of fruit.
i dont see why fruit juice would thicken water? my DD chokes on water all the time but its not really choking, she just drinks really fast and acts like shes drowning for a second and then is fine. sometimes she coughs but when she coughs she ends up laughing most of the time so i wouldn't say she is in any danger from choking. i think most kids drink too fast because they don't know any better. we use one of the straw sippys for water. she def doesnt drink enough water and i thought about adding some real fruit chunks to it (i like that for me too) but havent done it yet.

Same here DS gets water or milk only through the day.. but every morning I give 3 oz water with 3 oz prune juice to keep his chronic constipation under control.

I only give water and milk to DD, but I use the smaller nipple size for the water. Otherwise she drinks it too fast and coughs.

DS gets water and milk only on a daily basis. On occasion he will have juice if we are at a bday party or some kind of an event like that.

Re: Do you give your DC water, juice or combo of both?
My 5 year old has never had a sip of juice. She has absolutely no interest in it, and I have no desire for her to drink it. Strictly milk and water.
My 2 year old has had sips of my apple juice once. She loved it and would totally love juice...but I see no need for juice at all. All DH & I drink is water and milk, so we don't even have juice in the house...they don't have juice anywhere else either.

My kids are 1, 4 and almost 6 and only drink milk and water. Juice is something they only get visiting grandmas or at parties.

Re: Do you give your DC water, juice or combo of both?
DS is almost 5 years old and DD has a couple of months until she is 3 years old. They get about 70% water mixed with 30% juice (apple, grape, orange, lemon-aid). DH and I do the same for ourselves as well. The only thing I drink full strength is oj, everything else is watered down to reduce liquid calories and get more water in. I also give them bottled water or propel as a treat.
ETA: They also get 1% organic milk. I did not give either of them juice until they were about 18 months old. Then it was 90% water and 10% juice. Some days it still is. My kids never liked to take plain water so I went with adding a hint of apple juice. Neither their ped nor their dentist ever said anything about it to me.

Re: Do you give your DC water, juice or combo of both?
Water and formula only. I don't see the point in starting to give them juice, there is is no nutritional value. Once in awhile I throw slices of fruit in their water, but that's it.
