What am I getting myself into. Lol
Instead of buying a new house we are buying my inlaws old house and completely gutting it. So far we've had 2 estimates and have 4 more to go. Nothing is salvageable but I am getting a tub in the master bathroom which I was surprised would fit. I think we are crazy but with us buying this house we can have everything new and have everything we want and sell it in 5yrs for a profit. Next couple of months will be insane. Anyone do this?

I haven't but good friends of DH have.........AND since they did the work in the summer months, they stayed in the basement part of the house during the reno PLUS and extension. Major thing that sucked though was that because the amount of contractors involved, and things that needed to be special ordered, the work took a lot longer than originally planned. It was totally worth it though because their "new" house is gorgeous!!

Re: What am I getting myself into. Lol
My parents gutted their ENTIRE house. The floors, ceiling everything. When I say gutted, they took every wall down etc. The only thing left was the roof and 4 outside walls LOL They built it up all with their own 2 hands and it is SOO nice now. So many nice touches and everything my mom wanted, exactly how she wanted it.
I think its a great idea as long as you can live in a mess for a while. Good luck and if you do it show us pics.

My cousin just did this. She bought her parents house a long time ago and just did basic updates and stuff. They were finally in the financial position to demo so they did! Opened the whole place up added patios, really made this place amazing. Just remember it takes longer than they estimate for!

Re: What am I getting myself into. Lol
I did this. We had to move out because we completely knocked the whole house down. It took 9 months total. It was hell but totally worth it. I would be prepared and have everything picked out ahead of time. Some stuff took time to come in and others stuff the contractor told you the day before that they needed for the next day. I remember having to leave work early a few times because I had to run and pick out stuff because they needed to install it right away before they could move to the next step. Good luck!
