Fruit Flies
I started herb plants on my kitchen table and the fruit flies won't stop! The plants are tiny (like, 3 weeks old) but the flies are everywhere.
Anyone know how to get rid of fruit flies without getting rid of the plants?
I read online that adding a drop of dish soap to the water before watering the plants should do it... has anyone tried this method? How'd it go?

Fruit Flies
I did a drop of dish soap in cider vinegar and it worked tremendously.

Re: Fruit Flies
Take a glass, vase, jar whatever...... Put in an inch of apple cider vinegar, red wine vinegar works too....make a paper funnel and place it in the glass.....make sure it doesn't touch the vinegar in the bottom......they' ll be gone by the morning....if the funnel touches the bottom...they can crawl back out, otherwise they are not smart enough to fly out, only to fly in.

Re: Fruit Flies
i've gotten rid of them by taking a small piece of fruit and putting it in a paper or plastic cup. cover the cup with saran wrap or tape a paper towel and poke small holes on top. the fruit flies will be attracted to the fruit and will be able to get in but they won't be able to get out. Change the cup daily.

Re: Fruit Flies
I put a squeeze of dish soap in a plastic cup, and add around a quarter cup of vinegar and the rest water. Make sure you fill up the cup until the bubbles are really high. Set it by the plants and the flies will smell the vinegar, land in the bubbles and get trapped and die. Works like a charm I usually empty the cup when the bubbles are gone and do the mixture again. Fruit flies will be gone in a few days.

Re: Fruit Flies
OrganicMama, do they ever come back? I mean, do you always have to have this cup solution near the plants to keep the flies away?

I just took a small bowl and put about a quarter cup of cider vinegar in it, then a squeeze of dish soap. I didn't use a paper funnel like the PP. I left the bowl on my counter and within a few hours it had attracted a bunch and they just die in the liquid. I did it for a few days till they were all gone.
