What did you tell your boss?

I work in the city, dh works out east so during iui days I'm either going to have to work from home or go in late. Have to talk to my boss and I'm uncomfortable talking to her about infertility treatments.

I'm just going to tell her tomorrow. Makes it easier plus she went through IVF so hopefully she will be understanding.

my boss knows the truth.....i have quite a history of losses so she knows pretty much everything. that said, if you aren't comfortable telling her about the IF treatments, just tell her that you have some medical procedures coming up that you will need to be out of the office for. good luck!

Re: What did you tell your boss?

I told my boss that I had medical stuff going on. Luckily, I usually got one of the first appointments of the day so I was only like 10-20 minutes late. I had never taken a day off before this so I assume he thought is was serious. He kept asking how I was since I am pretty sure he thought I was dying. My ER fell on Saturday and then I took off 2 days for the ET.

I never told my boss and I had 7 iuis and IVF. I took sick days, other times said I was coming in late for difft reasons- boiler, dentist, etc.

I also don't work that far so I was always ale to do my monitoring before work. It was just testing and the IUI days and ER/ET I had to go in late, call out sick, use a vacation day, etc.

I just was never comfortable telling my boss, although I think he would have been ok with it. But I know he would have had to tell his boss and I wasn't comfortable with that.

What did you tell your boss?

I have just told my boss that I had to go to the doctor...I have taken several days off since I go in super early and done early so it sometimes doesnt pay to go in at 11AM since I am done at 2:30...they understand but they also think I have some serious health problems and they always ask if I am ok...plus all the people I work with are guys so they really dont want to pry too much

For monitoring, I never had to tell my manager anything b/c I'd get to work so early I'd beat everyone else in. For IVF, I just used days off or sick days. For testing I told my manager I had "medical stuff" and would need some time to go to the dr. He never questioned anything beyond that. Your work has to give you the right to see the dr and most drs hours are during work hours.

For my 3 IUIs, I lucked out. IUI 1 and 3 were on the weekends. IUI 2 was during the week and I just said I had a drs appt and would be in a little late. I was in the office by 10/10:30.

What did you tell your boss?

i never really had to say anything because i don't work that far and monitoring hours were always early enough for me to go in early and still be at work by 9am.
the only day i had to come in late was for the IUI and I just let them know i had a doctor's appointment and that i would be in later.
i wasn't comfortable letting them know about the IF treatments either

What did you tell your boss?

I told my boss the truth. With 9 monitored/medicatied IUI cycles and an IVF there was no way I could take that many days ---there werent that many excuses. Besides, the truth being a medical reason ruled out the possibility of me getting "let go" or getting my hours cut. That would be a HR nightmare. :) "The truth shall set you free" Although it may be none of thier business as to why your going to the doctor so as long as you are having "medical issues" you are covered and have every right to come in late/not at all without reprocussions.
Good Luck, everything will work out fine...especially since your boss has been through it she will understand.

What did you tell your boss?

DH was able to tell his boss the truth. I didn't feel comfortable so I just said medical reasons but asked to keep the rest private.

Re: What did you tell your boss?

I had 2 IUI's but I think if I had more, or moved on to IVF, I eventually would have had to say something. My first IUI was during the week so I said I had a doc appt and would be in late morning, my 2nd IUI i was lucky that it fell on a Sunday (that was the one that worked). But I can see how stressful it is trying to make up excuses. Even when my monitoring appts would run late sometimes i'd have to make up something.

Never told my boss, friends or family. Nobody except DH and I know. My monitoring hours are from 7-9am and I work 15 minutes from the Doc's office. So as long as I check in before 8am, I'm usually out by 8:45 and then take a cab to work.

I take vacation days for ET and ER days.

If you're going to be consistently late or absent from work, then I would definitely tell your boss something. It could be as vague as "I'm getting some tests done."

Re: What did you tell your boss?

My boss knew..... I didn't say my reasons first for coming late/leaving early and it wasn't long before he grew concerned and asked if I was ok. I didn't want anyone thinking there was something seriously wrong with me (after all, being infertile is just seriously wrong enough! Chat Icon ) .. so I told the truth, and he was wonderful about it.

I told my (male) boss when we started doing treatments. Turns out, his daughter was going through the same thing! He was so wonderful about everything. You never know what people are going through! I was out and late a lot, so I really had to explain somehow.
