best bang for your buck!

i have a coworker who is looking to spend no more than 400k (would prefer to stay under 375) and needs 3bed 2 bath within 1 hour commute to the Roslyn area.

Suffolk is perfered but with small children, where can she get the best bang for her buck?

- SD
- activities and child friendly area
- safe

etc.

We're in Commack which has a great school district and is a very child/family oriented community (lots of available activities, parks, etc). I think your friend would be able to find a house with what she's looking for in that price range (and I work in Jericho -it usally takes me about 30 - 40 mins to get to work, so Roslyn should be less than 1 hr)

I know you said Suffolk but I would have to say South Hempstead.
RVC schools, houses and taxes are low $$$. Definately less than an hour to Roslyn.

If she prefers Suffolk, what about the Copiague/Lindenhurst/Babylon area?

I'm in Harborfields. Good Schools, tons of activities for kids and family and probably a 30 min drive to Roslyn.

Brightwaters, Babylon Village, Sayville. I think they have plenty of homes in that range.

The above Suffolk suggestions were good.

I think southeastern Nassau is always good bank for the buck... Merrick, Bellmore, Wantagh, Seaford, Massapequa.

Highly rated schools, great train line, near lots of major roads/parkways, near lots of parks/beaches, good libraries with lots of activities for kids, tons of shopping and restaurants, etc.

There are plenty of great houses selling for under $400K in these areas now that have 3 beds, 2 baths, plus amentities like basements and garages.
