Propane Stove?

A relative just bought a home in Bethpage and the stove is hooked up to a propane tank in the yard. I've never seen this before.
Does anyone have this? Is it a pain to maintain?

Re: Propane Stove?

We had that in the house I grew up in. It's for people who want a gas stove, but don't have natural gas lines in the street to tap into. It was easy to maintain, you just have to make sure you get refills before you run out. We had two tanks, so as soon as we finished one, and switched to the other, we'd get another tank to replace the empty one.

Re: Propane Stove?

Do you get the tanks filled yourself or a company comes to do it?
Is the tank like a BBQ tank?

Re: Propane Stove?

We had a company come, as I'm sure most people do. The tanks are much bigger than a BBQ grill tank. Our tanks were about 4 - 5' tall (it's been a few decades since I lived there, so things may be off slightly....)

We do this. I love a gas stove but to put natural gas here would be Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon so we have the big propane tank. Size 100 (whatever that means)

We use Cylinder Express tank cost 115 and it's been almost 6 months since we had it installed. Still going! Only thing is there isn't a gauge on it to know when we need more. I'll just run out - good excuse to order in that day. They replace it within a day or 2 of calling.

Only downside with propane is that you can't get a propane stove 'off the shelf.' You need to get a gas stove and then purchase and find someone to install a propane conversion kit.

It's annoying, but better than cooking on an electric stove!

You can get a Wolf range that is native propane.

Petro does propane deliveries. They come twice a year to fill the tank and only bill me for what I need. Very convenient.

We have a propane stove in the house we recently bought - I had never heard of this before. We are waiting for National Grid to get back to us on our application to convert to gas, but in the mean time, the tank is serviced by a company called Paraco.
