who can i call regarding tree issues?

i just noticed something is eating away at the bark in a tree i have in the backyard. i was going to have DH spray termite/carpenter ant spray on it, but who can i call to see if it needs to be removed or not? i worry about it falling because its a tall tree in the back corner of our yard so our neighbors would also be affected if it fell.

Hmmm sounds like those flyers with the beetles they are always handing out. I'd just call 411- at the very least they'll be able to direct you to the right place.

i just removed a tree that i had termites in it. If you poke at the wood and see it crumble with white wiggly insects its termites. If its beetles then you have to call up for that. If its termites or carpenter ants you can spray it but its safe to say you should remove the tree when you can.

thanks, i had a tree guy come over, and its infested with carpenter ants. he said the tree is really soft so it could go down... so we are getting it removed since its really tall and can go over both the neighbors next to us and behind us property... i just hope its a fair price... he wanted $500 plus tax for taking down the tree, grinding the stump, plus grinding two extra small stumps we had existing around the area...
