Are you sharing the big news with anyone?

DH wanted to let everyone know we were expecting as soon as we found out! I told him I wasn't comfortable sharing the news until at least we had heard the baby's heartbeat. Well, we heard the baby's heartbeat on Wednesday and DH was all prepared to tell the family this weekend. I guess I kind of put a damper on things when I told him I would feel more comfortable telling everyone after next Thursday when we go in for our second sonogram to hear the heartbeat again. He already let me know he isn't waiting any longer than that because if i had my way, i would be 9 months and everyone would just "know" because of my belly.
I guess i'm just paranoid. we would only tell our parents and siblings, and everyone else after the first trimester is over.

How about everyone else?

We told our parents and siblings at 4 weeks, only days after we got our BFP, but that was because we were seeing them for Christmas and we live OOS. Everyone else was told after our 12 week scan.

We didn't tell anyone until after our NT scan, at 12 weeks. Some of my friends told everyone right away. It is all a matter of what you are comfortable with. Congrats!

our parents & siblings knew at around 6 weeks. We waited until after our 12 week NT Scan to tell our friends.

We didn't post on FB until 16 weeks, i believe.

I am exactly like you. DH wanted to tell right away and I kept saying, let's wait until after the heartbeat. Then, after the 12 week mark. Then, after the NT scan. Then, after the results. Then, after the bloodwork...you get the idea! We are now at 15 weeks and no one knows! I heard the HB today and we are seeing my family tonight so I promised DH we would start telling. It makes me nervous, but i guess, like you, starting with immediate family is best!

Thanks so much! it looked like a lot of your prayers worked because here i am! I am still cautious about everything, which is why i'm totally waiting for at least another 2 weeks before we say anything to anyone.

Re: Are you sharing the big news with anyone?

We told our immediate families the day after my BFP, right after we got my first beta results.

We told my close family (aunt, uncle and cousins) before Father's Day. They would've figured it out when I wasn't drinking anyway.

2 of my friends know - 1 b/c she's on this board and knew we went through IF treatment; another we told last week after the HB b/c we went to visit them and their new baby. I'm thinking of telling my best friend tomorrow night b/c we're seeing them. Oh, and I had to tell my manager b/c I'm skipping a team outing that my dr said I couldn't participate in.

But that's it until I'm out of my first trimester! It's just so hard to keep a secret!

First DS we told parents/siblings as soon as we got the BFP and the rest of the family around 8 weeks because it was xmas time and we would all be together. (plus everyone would guess cause I always have some wine)

This lo we waited until we heard heartbeat before telling anyone then parents/siblings and the rest around the holidays. (at 12 weeks)

Are you sharing the big news with anyone?

There's no right or wrong answer here. But the best choice is to come to a compromise together and make a decision together about it. There are going to be so, so many discussions throughout your pregnancy about what is best and then once the baby is here, throughout that child's life, as to what's best for all of you, and the best thing to do is start figuring out compromises and getting excited together about mutual decisions!

As far as when to tell... would you tell these same people if g-d forbid something were to happen? If the answer is "yes" then telling them now is definitely the right choice.

My first pregnancy, the OB told us at 8 weeks that once we saw a strong hb at 8 weeks, the chance of something bad happening was down considerably. It's not to say it doesn't happen, but the risk is highly diminished. We felt comfortable enough with that and told a lot of our family at 8 weeks. We told a lot more after 12/13 weeks and the NT u/s. I think we announced on fb around 16-18 weeks.

There's no right or wrong here... it's just whatever decision you make. He's super excited and wants to relish it. I think you should give him a huge hug and trust him on this one. (Maybe it'll give you a tiny edge up on the "name" game when it happens. Chat Icon)

Re: Are you sharing the big news with anyone?

We told our parents within a few days of getting the BFP both times, then our brothers not long after that. My mom keeps harassing me about when she can tell people. It actually gets really annoying, she says "Oh, no way am I waiting 12 weeks again to tell people?" to which I respond "Ok, great, have fun telling them never mind if something goes wrong". That usually stops her, although I do think she already told at least one of my aunts.

The only thing that makes me nervous to tell people is worrying if they'll have the respect not to spread your news against your wishes. I don't mind my immediate family knowing if *God forbid* something goes wrong but I don't want to have to tell that to the world.

Are you sharing the big news with anyone?

that's my thinking as well. i just want to wait until the next sonogram next thursday and then i have my first OBGYN appointment on July 9th. by then, i'll be almost 9 weeks and more comfortable telling evereyone. And when i mean "Everyone" i just mean out parents and siblings. GOd forbid something were to go wrong i wouldn't want to backtrack and tell everyone otherwise either.
I should have stated before that DH is totally fine with waiting another week and a half until i feel more comfortable.

We told my mom and grandmother the same day as my first beta. We don't plan to tell anyone else until I'm showing and can't hide it any longer.

Re: Are you sharing the big news with anyone?

We told our family first and then best friends. My idea is that its my first kid and we're so happy but if anything happens these people are our support system. They can share in the happiness and sadness.
