Ginger Pills for Cruise
DH and I are taking our first ever cruise (leaving tomorrow on RCL). I'm planning on taking ginger pills for motion sickness starting today (other meds are not an option because I get extremely drowsy).
I read people have success with ginger pills, but did the pills NOT work for anyone?
TIA!

Re: Ginger Pills for Cruise
Sorry, I've never tried the ginger pills.
Have you tried Bonine? It's non-drowsy.

Bonine makes me drowsy despite being labeled non-drowsy, so I'm looking for alternatives.

Re: Ginger Pills for Cruise
I wish i could help you. I bought ginger pills for my cruise and didn't end up taking them. We did feel a bit unsteady at times, but we didn't really need any meds. I hope you have the same experience

Go to CVS and get this Sea Band
Works great! They also should have them in the Ships gift shop

Re: Ginger Pills for Cruise
Have you tried taking half the dose? My mother is very sensitive to medicines. She gets bad motion sickness but has taken over 50 cruises. She found that the ginger pills and the bracelets didn't really work for her (I know they didn't work for my DD or most of our friends, although the bracelets were okay for me when I was pregnant and cruised). A whole pill of dramamine knocks my mom out - but she finds if she takes a 1/2 before any symptoms start that she has no issues and the 1/2 a pill also doesn't make her drowsy either. Or you could try taking the children's dose. You could also get a script for the patch but I wouldn't recommend it - too many people I know had bad side effects from it.
I feel for you it is not fun to have motion sickness and definitely not fun to be exhausted from the meds either.

Re: Ginger Pills for Cruise
I'm back from my cruise and had no motion sickness, even when the boat was rocking from a storm on the way back
I ended up taking ginger pills and didn't want to chance it with dramamine. (Though in the future if I need it, I'm going to take Christine's advice and split the pill). DH and I were over-prepared (his motion sickness is way worse than mine) and got the scop patch and sea bands just in case, but neither one of us ended up needing them.
DH and I will definitely be cruising again and not as worried about motion sickness. Thanks for the advice!
