new job while preggers?
Would you start a new job while pregnant making alot more money but get only 6 weeks maternity leave instead of 12... but also summers off every year (instead of just 3 weeks in the summer i currently get)?
Keep in mind that with a new job comes less flexibility to leave early for doctor's appointments or take sick days off if i need to. I'd be 17 weeks when the new job started. BUT I've been waiting for an opportunity like this FOREVER!! Timing just sucks!
Can't decide what to do!

i would probably take the job. It'll be worth it in the long-run since you'll get a higher salary and the entire summer off.

I'm starting a new job while pregnant. Like you, its a much better opportunity for me. I will only get 6 weeks off, but overall its the better career move.

ITA!!!! Would jump at this opportunity. I am about to finish my Masters in EDU, of course there are no jobs. With my current position, I will only be returning part time b/c it does not make sense, based on my salary, to put DC in day care. If a teaching job fell into my lap, I would take it & run.
Congrats!!!!!

Re: new job while preggers?
I did exactly that. I was 7 months pregnant when I took my new job. I got like NO paid time off- but it was the best decision I ever made in the long run.

Re: new job while preggers?
Thanks, i guess taking the job makes the most sense. I'm just worried bc I would probably have to find a new OBGYN since my current doctor's latest appointment is at 3:30, not a big deal since i haven't been to an appointment yet, but i really liked her at my consultation. At my current job, i could just leave early to get there in time. Well, I have some time to decide so we'll see, but thanks for your help!

Re: new job while preggers?
I personally wouldn't do it. But that's me. I need the flexibility and down time especially when pregnant. Also, I can't imagine to ever have to go back to work 6 weeks after giving birth.
ETA: I forgot to mention that I work in a demanding corporate environment and even though I had opportunities to move on and up, I chose to lay low until I am done with my pregnancy and having kids and then move on. To me the flexibility and stability are far more important than more $ or a carreer move at this point. But I understand that everyone's situation and needs are different.

Re: new job while preggers?
I'd take the new job since it's sounds like it's the much better option for the long term. The inconvenience of having to schedule doc appts around work or not being able to call in sick when you need to, might be a little bit of a hardship, but it sounds like it's well worth it.
Good luck.

Re: new job while preggers?
It sounds like a good opportunity, if you could find a dr that would accommodate your appts then I would say why not. Summer off is so nice!

I'm not sure what I would do but just wanted to mention one thing... Make sure that you don't need to be at this job for a certain amount of time in order to be eligible for the 6 weeks of maternity leave.

I agree, and I also work in a high-stress corporate job, but your situation sounds a little different with summers off AND more money - that's fantastic. As long as you don't think ramping up would be too stressful, 17 weeks is not bad for starting at a new place. Good luck!!
