Funding for bathroom remodel?
Would like to redo my bathroom, its very big so I'm guessing around 40k. I havent received any quotes yet but am researching options to pay for it. What are my options besides a home equity loan? Thanks!

IDK where to fund it from, but a $40k bathroom sounds like heaven! I can only imagine what you can do with that!!!

Re: Funding for bathroom remodel?
40k sounds awfully high for a bathroom regardless of how big it is unless you are going crazy high-end on it.
As for funding if you don't want to re-fiinance I would think you would have to take a personal loan. Or borrow against your 401k so that you are paying yourself the interest on the loan
Do you have anything to put toward it?

Re: Funding for bathroom remodel?
40K is a whole lot to spend on a bathroom remodel. We went high-end on our finishes, and have a decent size bathroom, and spent half that.
I think you need to factor in the price point of your home and neighborhood and figure out what makes sense to invest in the property before deciding what to spend.
As far as funding, we used savings. Our rule is: If we can't save it up, we can't afford to do it! (This is why I lived without a kitchen for a full year and why I still have an unfinished basement!)
Whatever you decide, good luck!

40K is high even if it is big. I did a kitchen for 10K.
You can get personal loans but usually the interest rates are high. I would just try and wait and save.

Re: Funding for bathroom remodel?
Thanks everyone! I thought the going rate for a bathroom was 15-20k? Its a big bathroom and we'd also like to change the layout so I figured with the other construction costs approx 40k but maybe it will be less. Anyone have someone they have worked with that they recommend? Also does anyone have Angies list and would you recommend it? I've been thinking I should sign up for that.
