Spirit Airlines - Share your experience!
DH unknowingly booked what seems to be the worst airline ever for our upcoming trip to FL. If you have flown spirit air can you share your experience? Is it really as bad as what people make it out to be?

Spirit Airlines - Share your experience!
Had many flights go off without a hitch. But when they suck, they suck beyond belief. My mom uses them probably month to come up (she lives in SC).

Spirit Airlines - Share your experience!
I flew on Spirit once, this past December, to go to Chicago. The flights were absolutely fine - on time both ways, with no problems. But, on the way to Chicago (about 2- 2 1/2 hrs), I started feeling like I HAD to get out of the plane because the seats are so cramped. I have never had any issues flying or any type of claustraphobia before. It was such an uncomfortable feeling and I was pretty miserable. For the flight home, we were able to book their more spacious seats for an extra $50 pp and it was well worth it

Re: Spirit Airlines - Share your experience!
Well what the OP said was our experience - and that was 8 years ago. When they were good they were acceptable (got us there on time - we had a seat) and when they were bad they were horrible. But they used to let you pay say $30pp or $40pp and upgrade your seat at the airport to their "bigger" (more like business class size seats). We found that they gave us slightly better service but nothing special (we got free drinks one of the flights). We only did it going down not coming back. Those seats if you purchased in advance were like $200 more pp. I think they still do this - but it is a risk because they may or may not be available. I haven't flown them in years because now they charge you not only for checking all your bags but they charge you for carry ons now I believe. So while the original price looks good the final price after your bags isn't necessarily cheaper. That being said if you are basically looking for just a seat and means of transportation from point A to point B they are probably fine - even though they are cheap and charge for everything.

Re: Spirit Airlines - Share your experience!
I am not a fan at all, I am forced to fly them because they are the only airline that goes to Myrtle Beach non stop from NY and I go down at least 1x a year. The seats are cramped, if you are traveling with someone they will separate your seats unless you pay to sit together.. they really nickel and dime you for everything. The cost of carry on luggage is pretty much almost as the same as checked baggage. I read somewhere that they are even going to charge you to print your boarding pass out at the airport kiosk vs. from home.. so stupid.

ITA. I only fly them since they have the most non-stop options to Myrtle Beach.
We've had many good experiences but, last time was HORRIBLE!
They cancelled our flight (after I waited on the ticketing line and the security line with my inlaws, toddler and infant) and we had to get back on the ticketing line again... Our flight was supposed to be Tuesday at 11:40 and they couldn't get us out until Saturday night unless we wanted to drive to Atlantic City - where we could get out the next morning. We ended up doing that because we had paid for vacation and DH was there already.
They gave us absolutely nothing since they blamed the cancellation on "weather" even though it was beautiful at both destinations and in between (and they had told people on the outbound aircraft there were maintenance issues).

Ha, my ex did that as well too--booked on Spirit without asking me!
The seats have very little room between them so you really feel that you are on top of the person in front/in back of you. The seats are also insanely uncomfortable.
It's funny because I REFUSE to sign up for Spirit Airlines frequent flier program because I swear I'll never fly them again after that time but each time I do, I regret not signing up because it doesn't take that much to get a free flight.

honestly, one of the worst flights i ever had. i flew them to go to FL once and it was terrible. Bumpy flight, old plane, cramped seats and they overcharge for everything.
