Glass Bottles

A friend was cleaning out some baby stuff (she has a 1 year old) and gave me 3 glass bottles (4 oz I think). I had never heard of or seen anyone use a glass baby bottle, but she said yeah it's popular. Is there an advantage to glass over others?? Seems like it would just be heavier.

Re: Glass Bottles

I used glass bottles for DS and I still do sometimes but yes they are heavy especially when the baby gets old enough to hold their own bottle.

My reasoning for going with glass is that I was able to heat the bottle quicker bc the glass holds the heat and I was kinda afraid in the beginning to use the plastic bc u hear so many things about plastics being no good.

I think it's just a personal preference to be honest, I use both and don't prefer one over the other.

btw....I've dropped the glass bottles in the street and they didnt break, they're pretty sturdy.

Re: Glass Bottles

I used glass with DS and this was before all of the BPA-FREE bottles. I did research on my own and did not want plastic. I never had issues with them! Easy to clean, no smell, durable, heats and chills fast. I plan on using them on my next also. Just something ab plastic that does not sit right with me.

Re: Glass Bottles

i used both with DS#1 and i liked them.
two things i noticed that were a downside:
1) baby can't hold them on their own since they are too heavy. Since i switched between both plastic and glass, i could tell he would get frustrated with the glass since he couldn't hold them on his own
2) the glass gets hot when you wam them
Upside was that now that I'm pregnant with my second, my glass ones look brand new and the plastic look shot, so they are def more durable.

i would use glass bottles for two reasons:

1. plastics are bad for our environment, and if a friend is giving them to you why not use them.

2. although most plastic bottles are bpa free now, they still have chemicals in them that produce estrogen effects.

Re: Glass Bottles

I wasn't even thinking about the effects from plastics...thanks for enlightening me ladies! We'll probably throw them into the mix and see how it goes!

I am using Dr. Browns glass bottles for after DS is born for 2 reasons.
1. I don't trust plastic bottles.
2. My mother would be horrified at the thought of me using plastic bottles.
