ETA for a new passport?

I need to renew my passport and get our DD her first one. Does anyone know how long it usually takes? Thanks!

Re: ETA for a new passport?

Currently they are saying it takes 4-6 weeks. That was about what it took last year when I got the girls their 1st passports. They came at different times though even though they were done together. Just a little note - their birth certificates came back separately from their passports. I think they came almost a week or something later - which was a bit stressful. DH got his 1st passport a few years ago and they said 4-6 weeks and his came in like 2 weeks. It came in less time than mine did for a passport renewal AND name change. Which I would think would take less time.

Just keep in mind you need both parents present as well as the child to apply.

I just renewed my passport last month. It took exactly 2 weeks. I checked the status online and the day it appeared online as "in process" I received it in the mail.

Thanks. We have about 8 or 9 weeks before we travel so I should be okay. I will have to get everything done this weekend.

You'll be fine with that timeframe!

Definitely. But even if it was 8 weeks, they ask you to include your travel date on the application and they REALLY work to make sure you get that passport in time for your trip. In fact, I've never heard of ANYONE not getting it in time as long as they stay on top of them.

Re: ETA for a new passport?

I had to change mine. I paid for the extra processing fee because I needed a super fast run around and I got it within 2 weeks. On the government passport website you can check the status.

As a pp stated you will get your documents after your passport.

Re: ETA for a new passport?

There is a form you can get prior to applying that one parent can get notarized stating they give permission for the child to get a passport without them actually being there. I was able to do this when I got my dd's because her father and I are not together and he doesn't live locally. Just an FYI !!
