Re: If you have been to Costa Rica, please tell me about it.
We're going in August, can't wait! We are staying at El Silencio del Campo in Arenal/La Fortuna and then Cala Luna Boutique Hotel & Villas in Tamarindo (Guanacaste).
As far as excursions, we are doing...
--Arenal Volcano hike --Mambo Combo (half day waterfall rappelling, half day white water rafting) --Cano Negro & Rio Frio Boat Tour --ATV Tour --Buena Vista Canopy & Natural Spa Tour (includes zip lining, 1500ft water slide, and horseback riding to the foot of Rincon de la Vieja Volcano where we go in thermal hot springs and volcanic mud baths).
eta: I used a great travel agent if you're interested!

Re: If you have been to Costa Rica, please tell me about it.
We just got back in May! DH really wanted a beach vacation so we stayed in Guanacaste at the Riu. He also wanted an all inclusive, which was a big deal for him which made us choose there. It was probably the best beach type vacation we've ever taken. We had such a fun relaxing time and the food at the place was sooooo good.
We did a couple of day trips and our tour guide was the nicest person ever, we even went to his house one day and he offered to pick us up if we wanted to go to Coco beach to hit up some bars!! We did an adventure trip which included zip lining (we did the extreme course), tarzan swing, water slide, horseback riding, hot springs, mud baths, tractor ride and lunch. We also did a river tour and we got to play with monkeys!!!!
We were told by many people not to go to Arenal area during the rainy season because it rains a lot there. December and January are Costa Rica's dryest and hottest months. May is their transition month into rainy season, it only rained 1 day although the forecast called for rain every day. They said you usually only get an hour or so in the beach region during that month. It was still very hot even though it wasn't their hottest month, we got super tanned (darker than either of us had ever been before!). We were told not to even both to go in September/October because it just rains constantly.
